Brussels Airlines Baggage Handler Strike

So first off apologies if this is the wrong forum as this is not a flight delay, but a delay on delivery of luggage. I have searched and could not find another appropriate forum.
Fri June 17th there was a strike in Brussels. We were flying to Lyon via Brussels from Manchester, so all our luggage was not flown on from Brussels but held there. We arrived back home in the UK on Sunday 19th. Our luggage was returned Wed 22nd.
The whole trip was a golfing weekend/business trip, so we ended up hiring clubs, buying clothes, buying suitcase, etc. We had paid extra for golf clubs to be delivered. So as far as I can see I paid for a service - it was not performed - breach of contract.
Brussels Airlines saying not their fault, sorry we're giving you diddly squat. My claim currently sitting at around €2000 total for the two of us.
I have asked for the next level of escalation within complaints.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Airline should reimburse for essential items purchased. They will likely deem €2000 high for a 2 night stay - the maximum liability under Montreal Convention is 1131 SDR which is around €1400 which would usually be when the baggage is never found so you may be best speaking to your travel insurance0
