New York Holiday statue of liberty

Options
We had to New York on wednesday and was hoping to get up to the crown of the statue of liberty. Having checked every ticket site it seems to be booked up till october, is this normal?

Is there any other way to get a crown ticket?

The crown has limited tickets per day, so yes it sells out months in advance. Tickets for the pedestal are usually still available on the day. If not, then you can still just visit the island.

Personally ive never seen the draw of going up the statue, as youre just looking out at manhattan as a dot in the distance. The wonder for me is looking at the statue, not the view from it, and to that end i prefer to just ride the statten island ferry. Great views of the SoL, plus its free

I agree statten island ferry is great.

Climbed Ayers Rock/ Uluru years ago for the sunrise, and then realised actually looking at it for a distance would have been much better!

FWIW here's a link to the Statue of Liberty section of the US National Park Service web site:

Empire state building was good - 2 hours of queuing though, the US security is very tight

I personally prefer top of the rock as its never that busy, its cheaper and the one thing you cant see from the top of the empire state building is the empire state building itself

I hear what you're saying, and have heard it said often on the NY thread, but for me, going to NYC and not going up the ESB would be like going to Pisa and not visitng the leaning tower, or to Paris and not visting up the Eiffel Tower, or going to Berlin and not visiting the Brandenberg Gate, or going to Rome and not visiting the Coliseum, etc etc etc

We went to the ESB early, pretty much as soon as it opened, and there were no queues at all :)

We went up top of the rock, rather then the ESB, as others have said, the State Building is in all your photos from the top. No queues at all when we went this time last year. You could also throw in the Freedom tower to the mix of tall things to go up!

We also saw the Statue from the Statten island Ferry

Think I booked my crown tickets about 6 months in advance, when I went last year. Pretty small inside, awkward climb and not the best view, which was exected, but just wanted to do it and experience it.

And Top of the Rock is better than the ESB imo, went up them both.
