Car - Police Letter Proceeds of Crime Act!

Hi all,

Hope all is well.

Had a very worrying letter about an old car today - apparently the history of the car is under investigation for the Proceeds of Crime Act!

The GF bought the car years ago paid cash and has since binned all documentation 😠

The letter from the Police has asked for her details regarding her payment of the car?!

All was above board I'm certain and the car was bought from a garage.

She sold it to Lookers as a part ex. DVLA will have all the history.

Anyone ever heard of anything like this?

Thanks in advance,

Coeus.

A car I traded in was used in a bank robbery a week later.

I was lodging with a friend who was a solicitor. When the police came to talk to me, i was out but he sorted it out!

Just answer the questions as you've nothing to hide.

Seems a very strange carry-on, the POCA can't claim cars that the convicted person has legitimately sold.

I assume the investigation related to the period before your GF's ownership.

The person buying a car can only be investigated under the Proceeds of Crime Act if they bought the car with the "proceeds of crime"

Because a day can't go by without Bigjl calling someone a troll or liar. He clearly has trust issues ;)

Do you really think the Police would make a mistake between the Proceeds of Crime Act and Money Laundering?

    Lol

And you think the OP was factual?

Does the simple fact it doesn't make any sense not make you think twice?

Clearly not as you just like having a pop at me.

To all those that helped many thanks.

To bigjl - shame on you.

The letter was from an Financial Investigator of the Economic Crime Unit.

I had a prompt response this morning confirming I provided all details that were required and nothing to worry about.

Check a bit of the history before making accusations - you'd have seen the 'bad luck' I was talking about. Funnily enough you commented on some of them.
