Accidentally paid too much into my help to buy ISA

Hi,

I have a help to buy ISA with Nat West that I pay the maximum £200 a month in when I get paid. Unfortunately I made a bit of a mistake & paid July's money in two days early so it now means I deposited £400 in June. Does anyone know the consequences of this or how I can rectify it?

  • I accidentally paid £210 into my Halifax help to buy ISA account - and received a cheque in the post a few weeks later from them for £10 and a letter stating the account cannot accept it. Wait for the cheque....it will come!

No guarantee that Halifax will treat it exactly the same as Natwest. My advice is to phone them and explain what happened, just for your peace of mind really.
  • Hi ANewLoginApparently,

and, what happened? I did the same this month! I'm with Natwest too..

  • Well in the end I got an automatic refund back into my bank account and received a letter to the effect of "you've been a very naughty boy, do it again and we might have to close your ISA".
  • When I closed my regular Barclays ISA with £1k in it, and transferred it over to a HTB ISA with Halifax, I got 33p interest included in the transfer, which Halifax returned to me via a cheque.
  • Halifax bounced the money back wthin a week with us
