My 12 Year Old Daughters ESTA cane Back TravelNot Authorized

I have just applied for an ESTA for my daughter who is 12. She has an existing ESTA which expires before we return from our holiday in America which we leave for in 5 days time. I cannot believe that an ESTA for a 12year old can be denied - what on earth can she have done to be denied? It is Saturday afternoon and I can't ring anyone until Monday so have no idea what to do next - can anyone help? We go to the USA regularly and have never had any issues before!!

No, An ESTA is only required to be valid on the day you enter the United States. The ESTA does not need to be valid for the entire time a traveler is in the U.S. If the ESTA expires while you are in the U.S., it will not affect your admissibility or the amount of time you are permitted to remain in the U.S.

Are you sure you answered all questions correctly?

It looks like you'll be ok as it only needs to be valid on entry.

But for others, apply for your ESTA months in advance please, not days. Otherwise you're going to have stressful dealings with the US embassy to try and get a rapid visa.
  • The only question that I have in my mind is does the new application cancel any existing ESTAs?
  • Absolutley all questions were correct checked and double checked!!

IMO, yes, it cancels the previous application as you are currently not authorized, where previously you were.

Try applying again (if it lets you), at this stage you have nothing to lose.

For all anyone knows your daughters name may be similar to one just added to a no fly list. Only people that can help now are CBP. Chances of getting a visa at this late date are unknown.

It's a pity you tried to apply for a new one, because there was no need. You will have invalidated the one that was valid to travel on. Try reapplying, but wait at least 24 hours.

Would it have been denied because she already had one ?

No. You don't have to wait for one to expire before you reapply. You can renew any time before or after the expiration date of the existing one.
