Received a letter today asking me to go in to a branch with ID to progress the application. It says that they have been unable to process my application due to the information contained in my application not matching the records they hold on me.

Is this fairly standard or is it going to be a struggle to get the account set up?

    Cheers,

    Andy.

I don't know about it being 'fairly standard' but its definitely not unusual.

Even the slightest mismatch between the details on your application form and those held by the CRAs will result in a failure of the electronic ID verification.

If you want the account, go into branch with the info requested.

I got my HSBC Advance with no trouble and instantly. How? By going in to my branch with ID and it was all approved and set up straight away. I had to wait as normal for the card and PIN but I think this is how HSBC work best not online but personally in the branch.

Unfortunately not everyone may live near an easily accessible branch nor able to come at a time which is convenient for them AND convenient for the someone at the bank to spend 45 minutes opening the account. Good to know for future reference though.

I had the same issue as one of the commenters above where I had to go into branch to confirm some information that wasn't tallying (I've got 2 middle names, my current account application gave both but my mortgage details they hold had only one).

3 weeks later I heard nothing more. Then I received a letter to provide my signature which I sent back over a week ago and nothing since.

I've called their customer service line to chase... they said the offer had been very popular with a lot of last minute applications (thanks to MSE :money: ) so unfortunately they couldn't give me an estimated process time, it was just a matter of them working through them.

I advised them that it would have been a pleasant courtesy for them to send an email to waiting customers acknowledging the delay and explaining the wait... would have answered some of the questions on here and avoided the negative press.

P.S. I had a similar delay when I switched my mortgage to them which I wasn't happy about as I incurred higher interest from my incumbent provider whilst I waited. Based on experience now I would not recommend HSBC... unless paid - £250 might do it.:rotfl:

I applied in late December and just got the account opened last thursday...be prepared for a loooong phone call when you request your switch. The website is a pain too, but at least they give you £200 and access to a 5% saver so you can't complain too loudly.
