If the police have been notified that someone they are looking for is not there, fail to investigate this claim and then proceed to send officials to break in then they are actiing vexatiously and causing damage to property.
They then have a duty to correct this.0 -

Yes there is. I've worked for two council parking depts. Trust me when I say shoddy.. the managers are always harping on about making more money - it's nothing to do with keeping the streets clear for the "free flow of traffic". If the flow was so important the police would still be dealing with yellow lines as a criminal offence.
It's all about getting money out of the public = shoddy.
Bailiffs also want money out of people - even when they've got the wrong person and that is also shoddy.0 -
The police (or anyone else) WOULD NOT go back to the DVLA for address details in relation to the same offence. They are only entitled to get the details once (so I believe) for any given offence. The exception would be if they are informed that the details they hold are incorrect. But if they got the details from DVLA in the first place, then requesting again for the keeper details at the date of the offence is likely to return the same information.
Don't be silly.. if the registered keeper were to move between offences then the police would have an out of date address.
The police are smart, they're a lot smarter than you and I, they hold meetings to discuss tactics on how to catch people etc. They also have the backing of the government and can obtain access to all sorts of records as many times as they wish as part of ongoing investigations.
The limits that may apply to Joe public do not apply to the state and its authorities. Don't get the two confused!0 -

What damage is being caused?0 -
what most people have missed here is that the car in question could be a ringer basically someone has cloned your car ive seen it done basically they see a car same colour model etc as yours which matches theirs go and buy a set of dodgy plates the same number as yours then stick them on their car which is same as yours etc and they are away. especially if they spotted your car on your drive etc. Plus of course the car that had a diferent reg as to yours but now shares it is off the radar so to speak
Thanks for the suggestion. So far, this is basically what hasn't happened. They are not (TG) using our car registration - it's a different one. Just the address.
I have heard of cars being "cloned" like that, it happened to a friend of mine in London many years ago. It's then a fearful job to get anyone's attention to get it right again. At present I don't think this is what is happening.0 -
Just to see what happens go on eurocarparts website put in the reg of the car that is the issue and see what the car actually is compared to what it is on paper. Eurocarparts is just a car parts company but it does sometimes come up with something that helps0

He's only been sent a couple of letters.0 -
You're being a tad melodramatic and giving bailiffs far too much importance. They wont be breaking down any doors or prying windows.TrickyWicky wrote: »Well gee if they break a door down or pry a window... i don't suppose the frames will be left intact will they.
