52 Mbps BT Infinity

Got an e-mail entitled:

Click to see your new faster BT Infinity speed

Used this speed test to check:

http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/

Download speedachieved during the test was - 35.04 Mbps

For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 20 Mbps-53.17 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 53.17 Mbps

2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 8.79Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10 Mbps

Which hasn't changed much from how it's always been.

So it looks like all they did was to allow 52 Mbps as an upper limit, but no real change.

Is it supposed to be faster?

Maybe give it a few days for the speed to increase? I previously got around 36Mb/s, just checked and got 51Mb/s.

Was your speedtest done using a wireless connection?

If so, 34meg is probably about the limit of your wireless connection. Try the speedtest using an Ethernet connected directly to the home hub/router.

Not sure when the upgrade is dated possibly with a new contract .
My speeds increased to around the 52 meg mark when i took out a new BB contract last month .

I haven't made any changes to my broadband with BT and certainly not signed up to a new contract. I got an email about the speed going up to 52Mb and checked my speed at the time to see if it had increased, but it was still the same. Just checked again (probably been a couple of weeks since the email), and the increased speed has now kicked in.

Did you power cycle the router? As you weren't reaching the old maximum it's quite likey nothing will change as all they have done is increase the cap but it's always worth a try by forcing a resync.

The OP is syncing at the maximum of 55meg, the IP profile of 53 confirms this.

The issue is throughput and I suspect it's down to using a wirelesss connection.

    Thanks for the responses.

I tested wirelessly. Need to set something up wired.

    Will get back with result.

Set up the Ethernet cable connection, and it's 52.50 Mbps!

    Upload is 8.99Mbps.

Well, good to know. Can't feel the difference, really. :)

You can get wireless USB dongles to cope with that speed for not a lot of money.

    Suspected as much.

Unless you're in a multi user, heavy use household, you'll not see any difference day to day (most people won't see a difference from 8meg to 800meg for general internet use).
