Plimsolls are unisex they weren't in any gender category in the shop0

The OP has been posting about the same subject on the DigitalSpy forums. They also insist that their daughter's school allows her to wear Ugg style boots to school.0

I'm not trolling and I'm not even on digital spy0

And very sadly a huge proportion of shoes are poorly fitting as they simply don't come in as much variation as feet, and most people loose patience hunting through for the few that fit. Better to have no support than the wrong support. The idea of simply buying shoes in the right size and wearing them is completely alien, and painful, to me.
But as you say - physios are great, and sadly a huge number of people never do learn to walk and move properly, and physios can help with this.
Totally! Although Physios today are about 50/50 barefoot friendly or barefoot anti!
At risk of having flames thrown at me I loosely followed a barefoot style of running after a few years of running with constant pains in my legs, which were later diagnosed as stress fractures which had an orthopaedic consultant swear me off running or I'd land myself a knee replacement (they also diagnosed osteoarthritis). I had been having constant niggles in my legs and ankles for years and they all went away. I had to change the way I ran, not just my footwear. Support with footwear is pretty backwards- sticking lumps of plastic foam to hold your foot into the correct place which then supress any feedback your feet would normally pick up from your run when really your foot could benefit far more if you just worked on building the muscles up.
I totally agree with that and I used the barefoot ethos (read the books, went to talks with Barefoot Ted, went to workshops...etc) and it really helped to reduce my own injuries. Sadly don't run now for other reasons related to other health issues I have, but it is definitely the route I'd take if I ever went back to it.
It isn't though possible to get the same barefoot deal by wearing plimpsols because they have too much plastic below to allow feedback from the road as you walk- it's also a bit of a risk to do this if a foot is growing- you have to think about it as you would bringing up a small child in other days; you need to be there to pick them up and help support them until they build their own mental, physical and emotional muscles to do this themselves- they have to learn the right way to do things first so they can do this when they have the strength to. A teenagers foot is similar- it needs a bit of support to form in the correct way before it can risk wearing unsupportive shoes. If the child were running around all over rocks and getting a full workout I'd have a different argument as that way all the muscles could develop fully. But something tells me in this day and age unless in a highly rural poverty stricken world where roads are not built yet, I doubt very much the OPs son will be getting or have had the chance to allow all the muscles in his foot to develop to their full capacity.
I do think they should take the whole sports and PE teaching and turn it on it's head though- at the moment things like football and tennis and so on are taught, but they are all so regimented and they could do so much more to get the entire body developing more fully- not just all the tiny muscles and ligaments in the feet, but also the hands, the arms...etc rather than just the major ones. It's such a shame as we seem to have a growing set of overused overstressed muscles as we get older. We get arthritis and we wear things out and I really believe if we just developed our bodies in a way which encompassed and dispersed to more of the underused and not used smaller muscles, I'm sure we'd suffer fewer age related injuries and so things like joint replacements and so on.
I'll get off my soap box now! (Sorry, just an area I have a lot of time for!)0 -
Like I said, they're girl's shoes! So why is he wearing girl's shoes? Now I know you're on a wind up.0
