It isn't worth it is it? Why not just get a card from another provider such as MBNA, Lloyds or TSB which has an Amex option with it?0

No offence but I don't blame Amex for really disliking people who don't comply with the agreed ts and scooter. Of course it's business for them and not personal but they are entitled to run their business that way.0

Of course, they're perfectly entitled to do whatever they want. It's their company.
I just think it's a bit of an odd policy to hold a limited period of recession against someone for the rest of their lives.
They're the only lender I know of that do. Barclaycard don't. HSBC don't. I've never known anyone go further back than 6 years history.
A lot can happen in one lifetime.0 -
But it seems seems like a heavy-handed policy to me, when there's a million other card providers that don't operate like this, and have since turned me into another profit centre.
You should probably just apply to one of them then.
Private company doesn't want to lend money to a customer who bailed on them before. Its not rocket science folks.0 -

i like the quote "there are no rewards and punishments only consequences"
This isn't a judgment by Amex that people can't change.
It's simply a business decision not to take a particular risk.
I don't think it's odd at all to want to reduce risk, it's quite logical.
Amexs target profile does not have to be "fair" to everyone as long as they don't unlawfully discriminate.
There are lots of examples of criteria in finance that last a lifetime. For example "have you EVER had insurance refused".
Move on, find another company.
You can't change what others think or want to do.
Some may be perfectly logical others might indeed be odd.0 -
