Just tell the truth but do not play down your son's condition alway tell them the worst case.
    !

umm no you don't. you tell them an average day and that his condition can vary day by day.

The forms are set. So to make it fair everyone has to do the same steps. Yes its not fair but that is life.

And before anyone tells me I have no idea what I am on about. My ex husband had a stroke and I had to fill all the forms in as he was too ill even when out of hospital to make a claim.

He was very lucky and got IB/ESA and DLA with out any problems first time. The forms should never have had to be filled in when he has just be released after 4 months in hospital. You can't fake a stroke!!!

I was and still am grateful that we have society that helps the ill and disabled. yes it is a pain and can be stressful. But if you want the money that is what you have to do.

You have to remember the DWP don't know you or your son. You are a number on a piece of paper. They have to deal with thousands of cases.

    I hope it goes ok.

    Yours

I think it is obvious from OP's description of her son's disabilities that PIP at enhanced rate will be granted and I think OP is confident with this outcome.

The issue seems to be the interview. Is this because you are worried about the effect on your son? I can understand these concerns, but it still doesn't make it wrong that it should happen.

That is part of the reason and the other reason is that with 7 different types of evidence from health professionals shouldn't that be enough and tell you that he has had his disability since birth and is never going to be independent and will always rely on support I do not have a problem in anyone coming to my home and assessing him I have nothing to hide whatsoever and if they ant they could stay all day and then they would see how much support my son does need.

Anyway fingers crossed for tomorrow I just hope he copes well as he has already told me that he
is not coming out of his bedroom lol

    Oh the joys :D

Just in case anyone is reading this later:

    ummmm, No you don't!

Please never quote JUST an average - Please always give the worst, the best, and the frequency these occur.

It is always useful to say whether these can or CANNOT be done "reliably and repeatedly, and in a reasonable amount of time".

I agree that one should never exaggerate the worst, or underplay the best, but an average on its own without supporting worst & best case scenarios will cause big problems down the line.

If you have a variable condition there is no true average and one should not be pushed into giving one.

It was ok actually we had a nurse, she was over an hour late and then we had to go and meet her in my car as she couldn't find where I lived. My son didn't want to sit with us at first he wanted to go to his room, but I managed to coax him to stay and talk to her and he did very very well, she could obviously tell he has a learning disability as he couldn't answer her questions only yes or no and he did not give her any eye contact at all he looked at me (I was sat on the floor) she asked about when he was born and what school did he go to ect and she asked him about bathing and shopping and journey ect, I had lots of evidence here for her to look at but she didn't want any of it, she typed everything up on her laptop.

She did say that her sons girlfriend had a daughter who had autism and wanted to know where my son went for his day service so I told her all about that. When she was leaving she said that she would write her report and send it back to the dwp but she said I am sure you will have nothing to worry about.

We will have to wait and see now for the decision and I will let ou know when I receive it I am hoping it wont be too long.

  • Sorry I've only just seen your post but wanted to say that his award won't just be based on walking and picking things up. They want all the information to help make a decision and don't often make an award based just on paper evidence. Getting a home visit was good as they recognised he wouldn't be able to cope well with an assessment away from home.

My Son got enhanced for both and he can physically walk and pick things up and they were made aware of this even though he couldn't act on the assessors instructions.

    Good luck. x
