Click n'collect engagement ring -- but from display?

Is there a danger that when I go to collect the engagement ring I've ordered via click n'collect, the shop assistant will just reach into one of their existing trays of rings that they allow customers to try on and give that to me, rather than presenting the ring to me in an unopened sealed box that's arrived direct from their HQ?
If this were to happen, what should I say? Do I have the right to insist that the ring is offered to me in an unopened sealed box as it would have been if I'd ordered it to be delivered to my home via courier?

Yes there is a chance but that is what could happen in a normal jewellers too. My first engagement ring was out of the window of the shop as it was my perfect size
They will normally have the original box out the back and will clean and polish it for you before handing it to you so no difference than one that had been in the stock room.
Most jewellery boxes in my experience are not sealed anyway they are normally able to be opened straight away as most people will need to try them on for sizingFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
They didn't even clean my engagement ring, but then I wasn't unduly willing to take it off.
If it worries you, do ask them to clean & polish it.0 -
I have never purchased a piece of jewellery that came in a SEALED box.0

Not sure where you've ordered the ring from but I recently bought a watch from Ernest Jones' website and elected for 'click & collect' as I was sure that it would need some links taken out.overcharged wrote: »Is there a danger that when I go to collect the engagement ring I've ordered via click n'collect, the shop assistant will just reach into one of their existing trays of rings that they allow customers to try on and give that to me, rather than presenting the ring to me in an unopened sealed box that's arrived direct from their HQ?

When I went to collect it, the SA went in the back and came out with it in a package that had clearly been sent from somewhere else (so it may have been on display at one of their other shops or may have been in stock at their warehouse).
So you don't actually know if the ring you've ordered would not have been tried on by other customers in a different shop even if you had opted to have it delivered to your home address.0 -
If you want a ring that has never been tried on then go to a manufacturing jeweller and commission them to make a one-off, bespoke ring. It's the only way to guarantee that it has never been worn, but will cost plenty.0

Is it me, or is there something so un-romantic about a click & collect engagement ring?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Rings are made from strong metal - I don't think there will be any permanent damage from other people having picked it up or tried it on, and any finger marks can be rubbed off with a soft cloth.
Don't worry about it, and congrats on getting engaged!0 -
Just because it is click and collect does not mean it has not been tried on. It may have been ordered in a certain size and still needed to be exchanged for a bigger/smaller size. When we ordered my hubby wedding ring it was trying to snow and they measured his finger and ordered the ring he chose in that size. A few days later I collected the ring and took it home, the weather had warmed up a bit and so had his fingers - the ring did not fit and had to be returned and a larger size ordered. No doubt the ring was returned to the warehouse untill someone else ordered that size.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

When I meant sealed I meant that had I ordered it to be delivered to my home address it would have been delivered by a courier in a sealed box, like any other online order.0
