I will agree that the remainders could have a significant impact in a GE, the op's opinion was that the Libdems could achieve a majority, this is what I disagree with.
Libdems in coalition with others would be more achievable.

I was the OP, but after discussion yes it might be unthinkable that you would get a Lib Dem majority, however they are the only party so far that is standing in the next GE (whenever that may be) that say they will ignore the referendum result.

If other parties take up that ticket then other options present themselves, the Lib Dems could offer a coalition on the premise they get this referendum vote overturned.

Whatever happens there is a chance, the most likely chance as I see it due to the legislative functions in place to make it happen that Remain can overturn the referendum result.

IN view of the fact that my Conservative MP was a virulent member of the Leave Conpaign, I would not vote for him again and would go for a ticket standing for remaining in the EU,

BUT, and they are big buts,

I would not vote for remaining or rejoining the EU UNLESS we reverted to the current arrangements plus those that Cameron negotiated.

I would not vote for a party which countenances any alliance with the SNP because I value our UK Union far more than the EU and I do not trust SNP to work in the UK's interest.

I would not vote for a Labour party again with Corbyn at it's head because I think him substandard as a PM and have no confidence in his ability to negotiate anything with anybody, let alone stand up for the UK; a new Labour leader - perhaps, -- depends who it is.
    Union, not Disunion

I have a Right Wing and a Left Wing.
It's the only way to fly straight.

I can see a new tory leader calling a ge next spring and would expect labour to do very badly with ukip doing in the north what the snp did in scotland.
    I think....

We have fixed term parliaments now. General elections cannot be called because a leader feels the wind is blowing in the right direction. The only way the five year term can be broken is by agreement of two-thirds of MPs, or a no confidence vote.

What is your particular problem with it?

But where does UKIP go from here? Now we have voted to leave, what is UKIP's message? I think UKIP is finished. It is a party which really only has one negative message which is now redundant. The SNP is in a very different situation.

When / if Labour finds a competent leader who can deliver a coherent message (think Burnham would be good enough), it will start to slowly reverse the erosion of its support in England and Wales.

Until we have actually left the EU, or at least triggered article 50, UKIP will probably campaign on the basis that they are the only party that "leave" voters can trust to follow through on the referendum vote.
  • I also think that UKIP is the only party that really represents the 'poor but conservative' vote at this point.

there are times when it makes sense to call a GE rather than have a lame duck administration for a couple of years
I would think the next few years would benefit from a government is a reasonably firm position

but of course there is the pleasure in seeing the libdem suffering from their own arrogance
