General Election - Lib Dem Government?

I would think a lot of Remain voters would do the same.
The amount of anger on display over a Leave vote win appears to trump "I would never vote for <whoever>".
If Labour get a leadership campaigning on a similar basis to the Lib Dem promise you could end up with a Lib/Lab/SNP/Green take your pick coalition or an outright win for one party that campaigns on this issue.
All it takes is for a few remainian conservatives to disagree with the leader they elect, rebel and there we have it. General election called and the whole crap storm starts again only this time from Leave voters.0 -
There should not be another general election, we only had one last year and the government has far more important things to deal with in the near future.
I think if public approval is needed on the outcome of negotiations then it should be done with a referendum.
A Libdem government will not happen because this would require swings from the other party's of an incredible amount.0 -

If 2/3 of the HoC think we should have a general election and they vote for it then that's what will happen. All it'll take is some Tory MP's to disagree with the appointment of whoever is chosen, if it's Boris that might not be so hard to find.
That will be the SNP's way of keeping Scotland in the EU too.
I think you underestimate the feeling of those who want to remain. It's 48% of the electorate with majorities in Scotland, N.Ireland and London. That's not a massive swing if those political parties came together to achieve the result.0 -
There are a lot of angry remain voters on Facebook complaining that their children will now be unable to decide to live in an arts commune in Berlin on a whim, but I'm not sure that equates to a groundswell in support for the lib dems on the basis of their "stay" or "rejoin" pledge. The Lib Dems might as well play this card as they have nothing to lose but I doubt they will do better than double their seats personally.
The only way I see a GE being forced against the government's will is if the Tories split on a leave/remain fault line which seems unlikely. However, there may be a GE anyway as whomever wins may seek to consolidate power, especially with Labour for the first time in decades doing a better job of self-destructing than the Tories.0 -

I will agree that the remainders could have a significant impact in a GE, the op's opinion was that the Libdems could achieve a majority, this is what I disagree with.
Libdems in coalition with others would be more achievable.0 -
No chance of a GE.''He who takes no offence at anyone either on account of their faults, or on account of his own suspicious thoughts, has knowledge of God and of things devine.''0

Actually, thinking about the it more, you might have something. Given the way Labour now selects it's candidates, it only takes a sufficient number of people who care enough and have £3 to make them the leader of a Labour party. The PLP is largely irrelevant in the selection process after nominations (and even that they mess up).
If they could pick a candidate who had appeal to swing voters and was genuinely pro-EU (Corbyn isn't, never was, and never will be), they might be electable provided the government can be taken down by a no confidence vote. I still see that as unlikely though (given the bill for the Referendum itself had overwhelming support)."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
I voted conservative in 2010 and 2015. I would not vote for my current conservative mp as she voted leave so it will be Lib Dem for me. My ideal would be the conservatives split and centrists mix with lib Dems but not sure if that would happen. After watching the news tonight, showing people saying that they believe Jeremy Corbyn could win a GE, I don't think that I can be surprised anymore at how idiotic the British public can be.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
