That would certainly avoid their annual need to do a 'Houdini' act in the Premiership, and avoiding that stress might add some years to my life span, not to mention the (ironic) possibility of playing in Europe.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
Great.
If the UK uses the Turkish model its biggest export industry will not be able to export a third of its external output.
What's the plan Stan?
Given the GBP's fall it may be that the tarrif makes no difference to our exports compared to what they used to be.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
My car was made in Turkey. They're in a customs union that covers industrial goods. Quite a few car plants have been relocated to Slovakia, and they're looking to import workers from non-EU countries, as they've lost so much of their workforce to the rest of the EU.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

Didn't peugeot move a car plant from coventry (inside the eu) to turkey (outside) and yet I bet they still sold the output into eu markets.
Peugeot closed the Ryton factory in coventry and moved production to Slovakia, this was done with EU funding and the reason given was they could build the same quality cars for a lower price in Slovakia
and if i am not mistaken Slovakia is a member of the EU0 -
The Sunderland vote is possibly the most stupid use of a vote since Michael Foot convinced 28% of the British population to vote for representatives of his manifesto...
I hope we can all agree with that.
If I lived in Boston [Lincs] then frankly I'd have been very tempted to vote out, in fact I probably would have done. Immigration from EE has led to some pretty astonishing changes there, most of them arguably bad, in a very short space of time. What good things has this kind of internationalism brought to Boston? Not all that many [other than the general across the board stuff like the government being able to afford to feed, clothe, educate, care for, etc its population], truth be told.
But Sunderland, with almost zero immigrants & its colossal car-exporting factories, give me effing strength...FACT.0 -
the UK is overall an import of cars (net imports less exports)
If there were high tariff barriers then it would make sense for UK based manufactures to retool to make cars suitable for the UK market : overall that could mean an increase in UK based car manufacturing.0 -
Maybe. Is that the plan?
Or is there no plan? I think there's no plan.
What do you think the plan is? What's the plan Stan?
The people voted largely irrespective of what the politicians said.
We are leaving because the people wanted out.
We will have to deal with it.
A rebalancing of our economy away from services and towards manufacturing wouldn't be a bad thing.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

Turkey has a free trade deal with the EU on manufactured goods.
Longer term its difficult for a larger country to not have a auto industry. Simply put it would be impossible for all the EU auto manufacturing to be concentrated in one nation. So some EU auto manufacturing needs to be set up in Turkey. It will probably longer term still produce fewer autos than it needs in demand so overall its going to add to EU auto demand not detract from it.0 -
It's not a ban on export, it's just whether there is a tarrif.
Given the GBP's fall it may be that the tarrif makes no difference to our exports compared to what they used to be.
That is certainly not true for services. With services the alternative to 'single market' is not generally a tariff but a ban. (Because you'd no longer be part of the mutual recognition of licences etc that a single market involves. This is what people mean when they talk about the City's 'passport'.)0
