  • Mazda had a problem a while back with timing chain issues, so if your car has one don't thin it will be problem free.

Is that the one with the Duratech engine the same as the MK3 Mondeo? If so its a chain. No chain issues on the Mondeo.

Petrol are chain, no major problems as long as you service the car annually.

Mazda 6 diesel 2.2 had problems with stretched chains, best avoided.

I concur, my 2.2.d had chain problem/engine failure at 67k miles.

My 59 reg 2.2 diesel suffered a stretched chain at about 85k miles. No damage was done but the repair was £900. Mazda paid half even though the car was 18 months out of warranty.

Perversely the warning sign for the stretched chain is that the dpf light comes on and stays on. Even a Mazda dealer forced a regen before measuring the chain tolerances.

  • Hi,
I know this an old thread but did you contact Mazda UK to get them to pay ? My CX-7 has just had the cam chain replaced at 87k miles and the garage said it was at the end of its life which is ridiculous for a 6 year old car. I have emailed Mazda UK and await their response. Will they put up a fight ?

  • That actually is enough information.
All Mazda 6 petrol engines are chain driven. :)
