There is something very familiar feeling about this thread, to be honest.

    No, no.

    Apparently I have some problems.

One of which is being bored of trolls ruining the forum.

It does show how much planning trolls do though.

It must be nightmare keeping track of all the old sign in names.

I do have some mile ocd though, partly what makes me successful in business. I'm like a dog with a bone when i have my eyes set on something.

I wanted to put 200K onto my car, which is really my PRIMARY reason why Ive had it so long. Had it not been for that I would have sold the car long ago.

You remind me of someone but I can't think who.

Did they drive a Focus too, or something more flash? ;)

Go and test drive a car you can afford that's up to date with the latest safety standards, and has a good reliability history. You'll know when you're driving it if the difference is worth it. If you decide to keep the focus then that's a respectable choice, and you should place less value on the opinions of anyone prepared to mock you for it.

I suggest the Tesla :) If I had money I know that's what I'd have anyway.

I was driving down the M6 yesterday near Penrith, saw my first Tesla, looked lovely on the the back of the recovery truck.:rotfl:

To the OP I would suggest that the type of car depends on what mileage you do per year, and how important safety and reliability are. I've had cheap cars which are expensive to run, and expensive cars which are the opposite.

I am first owner of a 15 year old ford focus. I have driven it from new and loved it and drove it all through the years.

It is looking quite dated but the way I see it, it hhas served me very well and is very cheap to run.

I have been quite successful in business recently and my peers are fairly well off and they drive jaguars, 5/7 series BMWs S class mercedes etc.

I am of the belief that buy into things that appreciate, avoid things that depreciate. So the car is just functional for me. But I cant help but feel everyone is judging me when I drive up in my crummy old focus.

I really dont want to update for the sake of updating. What are your thoughts?

hmm the safety is a very valid point. If anything that is worth paying a premium for. On a head on collision in my little focus I'm pretty sure anything over 35mph and I will lose my legs.

This thread reminds me of a slightly embarrassing discussion I had with a work colleague. We had worked at the same company for about 5 years. His first language isn't English by the way. One day he said
    "You know my car?"
    "I know your car?"
    "You know my car?"
    "Er no not really"
    "You know my car?"
"No I guess you probably have one, though"
He got fed up and changed the subject. I asked another colleague what he was talking about. Apparently he had a posh Mercedes worth about £100K. I really felt sorry for him. He obviously thought that every one was talking about him and his car but in reality no-one was interested.

My goodness, you really are obsessed aren't you?

After reading this forum for a while now it just amazes me just how much this gets to you. Even if these people are trolls, they do a very good job because you give them exactly what they want.

On the other side, I feel sorry for these guys if they are real, because they must see your posts about DM related stories and have absolutely no idea what's going on.

(Yes I realise the irony of me replying to you, but hey ho, it's a slow morning for me)

Not just safety; cars have come on a huge way in 15 years, in terms of comfort & economy. Plus the features; low end cars have toys that were barely on the high end cars of 15 years ago. The new Focus can read road signs and (I think) park itself.
