Best grain free dog food

My GSD is raw fed and has been since birth but, for practical reasons, he's going to need to switch to a wet/dry complete diet temporarily.

This needs to be grain free and the best quality available. Any raw feeders out there who have had to do similar and can recommend a brand they've successfully tried please?

  • www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk is a great site with lots of different foods to compare.

I use Millies Wolfheart which is grain free, its a very good quality food and the one I use scores 5/5 on the above site.

The do both dry and wet food, I buy mainly dry but do get some of their wet now and again. The portion sizes are generally smaller than a lot of brands, my Labrador loves it and the price is very reasonable.

They are also planning to introduce some new flavours later this year.

Thanks, must admit the Millie's looks very good indeed. I've ordered some samples to try out. I like the fact they do smaller bag sizes too which will be handy for short trips away.
  • Its a great food and their customer service is brilliant. Did you use the food recommendation guide?

My girl absolutely loves her food, their treats are very good too :)

Yes, I've ordered Hunter, Ranger, Farmer, Gamekeeper and Countryside. They all sound wonderful so we'll see which one(s) he likes the best :D

My little dog is on Oscar, which is not on that website mentioned above. She has the fish/potato one and loves it dry or with a little salmon oil for her coat. It's pricey but delivered free from a local distribution place.

Just checked it out but the fact it's 47% potato is rather off-putting considering he's ordinarily a raw fed dog. The Millie's mentioned earlier is 70-80% meat/poultry content which is far closer to his natural diet which I don't want to veer too far from as this is only a temporary thing whilst travelling.

    Thanks anyway :)

Samples arrived this morning and I've just given him the Hunter one which he absolutely "wolfed" down, pardon the pun :rotfl:

Just a bit annoying that they emailed a discount code after I'd placed my order the other day which also expired June 30th before I'd received the samples. Do they often give out discount codes?
  • There are discount codes usually monthly and recently every couple of weeks. I try to use them as I order 2 x 14.5kg bags at a time plus a stack of treats. Glad he liked the food :)
