Tuesday 28th June - what small DFW things will you do today?

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Morning all, thanks for starting PF
I haven't caught up with the thread from yesterday yet so I hope everyone is ok

Today is pay day so I've done the big money shuffle, paying money into the wedding and mortgage pots. I've also updated my signature (my favourite part of the month :p)

Today is a spending day. I'm taking a couple of hours annual leave this afternoon to get T-section highlights (£26 with my home hairdresser which will last me until late August). We also need to go and do an Aldi shop this evening as the cupboards are bare

1 hour overtime at work. I had a really productive day yesterday so I hope I can repeat that today

    Banking checked/ spending diary updated

    FPL/ surveys to do

    Work on assignment this evening

    Bit of ironing this evening

I don't know what happened last night. We watched Game of Thrones on Now TV about 7pm, then I went to have a cuddle on the bed with poochy and next thing I know I'm waking up at 6.30am this morning!

Still no news on our wedding deposit. We've run out of patience now so will start proceedings...

Have a fab day everyone :)

Enjoy free breakfast and lunch at work

Hopefully mop all hardwood floors tonight

    Have a good day!
  • Hi guys  thanks for starting the thread PF and glad to hear you've had some positive news :j

Yesterday I was really bummed out because of everything that is going on politically, and spent far too much time frittering away my life on the internet. Decided to walk to the allotment to lift my spirits and spent an 1 1/2 hrs digging. It had it's desired effect and my mood was lifted. Came home and made some strawberry jam as I had 400grms of strawberries that were past their best :D honestly silly little things like that really do make me happy!

Today I am determined not to waste my life online and get on and do the things I want/need to do!

    * have already tidied round the house already
    * load of washing on the line
    * do 1/2 weeding in the garden to stay of top of things
    * repot a couple of plants
    * turn compost tumbler
    * sprayed the runner beans - my flowers aren't setting :(foxgloves & Dawn do you have beans forming already?
    * clean bathroom, vacuum & mop downstairs floors
    * all meals from stores - chickpea, spinach & potato curry for dinner mmmm
    * walk to the allotment and spend a good few hours there. Want to finish off digging a bed I've reclaimed from the weeds, clear out the shed and cut back the weeds in the non bed area...Take packed lunch & flask with me
    * play shape snap with dgd when she gets home - a friend came round last night (I adore this friend but we live about 45 minutes away from each other so I don't get to see her that often :() and gave dgd this game
    * contact CM and see if we can swap days next week as dgd is due to be there on her birthday
    * put a post on freecycle/local group for a hand fork as mine broke on Saturday.

Ok 10 more minutes pottering and I'll get cracking. Hope everyone is ok x

I feel the very same! Sounds like you managed to turn it around. Yoga helped for me.

Work is really frustrating me at the min because 2 out of the 5 people I sit beside voted leave and I suspect 2 did but are afraid to say and the other 1 didn't vote (non voters are the worst!) so finding it difficult to watch what I say so as not to start a political debate at work. (Don't want to start one on here either but just need a rant :D)

    Anyway, in small things news:
    OH still has his job
Brekkie at work - free milk
Lunch from stores - half price soup
    Cheapo jacket potatoes for tea
Finally got paid £40 cash back from January transaction!!
    Transferred £6 from survey money.

Am really trying for my £1k emergency fund - so far I have the £46 above + £180 from job #2 this week :T

Right, gotta go back to work for 4 hours of more fun.

DNMS - No, my runner beans are not even flowering yet. I'm a lot further north than you. Not happy about my broad beans though.....was on for such a good crop, & then the sparrows ate most of the flowers, so only a small crop now. They weren't bothered about them last year. Grrrr. Will be netting them next year like everything else.

    Afternoon Tuesday Frugalistas,
Haven't been posting much. Not really in the mood. Feels like the country is going to hell in a handcart. Anyway, it's all put me in 'Recession' mode, so have achieved a fair bit of money saving activity yesterday & today so far:
*Did rubber chicken - 4 days of meals plus stock made in the slow cooker.
*Did rubber ham hock - 2 days of meals & 2 also 2 pasta bakes made & put in the freezer. Ham stock made in slow cooker to use later for lentil soup.
    *Pick salad stuff from garden.
    *Watered & fed veggie garden.
*Made bread dough for cobs & pizza.
    *Made loaf in BM machine.
    *Made tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Did July's budget. Reconciled June's. Not too far off target. Heaps of complicated money shuffles/swaps to do to get all my different funds right but we can pay our holiday balance this month which is good, & I have paid back £50 of the £200 I borrowed from the Car Fund (to made up the payment needed for that massive repair bill we had). Can pay both CCs in full. Remembered to budget for the Fish Man who I'm sure is due in July.
*Read energy meters & uploaded onto website.
    *Entered a competition.
    *Did all my financial filing.
*Considered whether to renew pet insurance or shop around. It's gone up by £3.20 a month, which doesn't sound much but cat is only 5 & has needed no vet treatment since we had him, other than the usual non-claimable stuff like annual booster jabs, etc. Can't recall our previous provider increasing premiums quite this much. Think will pay it this year but put a note in my filofax for next May to look at alternative quotes.
*Update signature as am recording survey income again for this year.
*Put our crate of recently lifted homegrown garlic outside to continue drying while there's no rain.
Think that's about it so far. Had a dreadful night's sleep, proper insomnia like I used to get for months on end back when I was working. I can't sleep in the day, so pointless trying to get a nap. Think will have a nice bubble bath last thing tonight....failing that a big medicinal dose of my berry gin.

Our broad beans are netted, DW went mad with the netting and netted every vegetable in the garden! :rotfl: Our aim is to harvest more broad beans than last year, which shouldn't be hard as last year we only managed to grow....two beans. :p
