Dont understand new pay....

Hi,
Just started new, full time, permanant position.
I started on 19th June, it says in contract i'll be paid monthly on the 7th of the month. I just asked with boss and he said i'll get paid from 19th June to end of june, on the 7th July, however there is nothing in employment contract stating having to work a week in hand, so i dont understand how this works, surely if i get paid on the 7th i should get paid from 19th June to 7th July.....?
Doesnt add up to me.
Thanks

a lot of companies have a certain cut off point and then you are paid a few days after. it give the payroll department time to run all their various processes, calculate holidays, overtime, deductions etc.
For them, it obviously makes sense to align the payment period with the calendar month, and make payment a few days later.
All companies work differently, it doesn't sound dodgy to me at all.Mortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190 -
I assume you get paid 7th of the month for the previous month.
7th July - 19th June to 30th June
7th August - 1st July to 31st July
7th September - 1st August to 31st August etc0 -
No, your pay details need to be submitted to payroll beforehand to be processed, in this case the cut off date is the end of the month. It is the usual way things are done.0

So i'm effectively a week in hand is what i mean, but it doesnt state that anywhere. Thanks for the replies.0

You're not a week in hand. You are paid a monthly wage on the 7th of each month.0

Of course i am. If i had started on 1st June i wouldnt be paid until 7th July. So i'll have worked a week more than what i actually receive at any point im paid. That would mean i'm a week in hand.
So when i get paid on 7th August i'll be paid for all of July, yet worked til 7th august, which means i've always worked a week more than i actually get paid for. That to me is a week in hand.0 -

Ok, if that's how you want to see it.
That is the gist of it, I'm unclear of what the issue is.0 -
Well it's not "how i want to see it" it's just a fact.
When i started i was told there was no working in hand, etc. Anywhere else when ive started ive been paid at the end of the month, for that month, so if i started 15th i got paid 30th for 15th-30th, here its the 7th for the previous month, so you work all of july, then are waiting 7 days to get your salary from what you've earned in july, that is a week in hand, not just "how i see it".
Anyway, seems odd and not something ive come across previously.0 -
It's perfectly normal. Happens to millions of people.
But since you're having issues a week into the job, maybe it wont last long anyway0
