Yes, considering you'll be lucky to sill have it come mot time. I saw one and the rust has already set in at 18 months old. Chrome finish gone and bolts already loose and some sheared.

Unless that was a Lexmoto your comment is meaningless.

Which model of Lexmoto had lots of chrome on it?

I have seen some cheap and nasty Chinese rubbish on eBay.

But as I am not in any way advising even looking at those ones what does the longevity of them really matter?

I have seen some 18month old Hondas/Yamahas/Suzukis looking worse for were aswell, that's what happens when they are left outside all the time.

I had a 250cc X Max for a year and kept it garaged, only used it in the rain once and there was some rust starting on some bolts.

Unless you change every fixing on a bike with stainless you get rust.

Which Chinese motorbike/scooter did you see in this condition after 18months?

I'm talking about a Lexmoto, it was a 125 and at 18 months old was in worse state than a 12 year old Honda I had when I didn't have a garage.

By all means encourage the OP to buy one but at least let him know if he buys brand new it's a disposable item. The mirror work loose and cannot be re tightened, the needles fall of the dials any plated metal might as well have tin foil wrapped round it instead of the treatment if got in the factory.

By your own admission you state one run out in the wet they start to rust. Enough said.

Of course you are! Which model? They have a fairly quick model turnaround so you might not be able to use the Lexmoto website to make up a reply.

And on the subject of my one year old Scooter I am sorry to disappoint, you clearly know very little about motorbikes/scooters/mopeds.

Because if you knew anything you would know that a 250cc X Max is a Yamaha and not a Lexmoto.

But this does show how reliable your opinions are.

In fact every motorbike I have owned as had rust here and there, it's why it used to be the done thing to change loads of the fasteners for anodised aluminium.

And that was before Chinese bikes even existed, I await your next attempt at a comeback.....

Oh, and do you know how many commuter type motorbikes/scooters/mopeds actually make it to 12 years old?

Or in fact how many motorbikes in general make it to 12years old?

Every time you reply you seem to show that you have even less knowledge that I thought you have.

Can I suggest you avoid the cheap Chinese brands. From experience, they look virtually same as the top brands & seem good value, but are very poor quality and the one I had needed a service initially every 1k, rising to 4k after a year to keep the warranty, so not that cheap to run. If I had the choice again, I'd buy a 3 year old 'known' make, unless you're happy to consider 'throwing it away' after a year or 2.

If it only takes 45 minutes to walk, by the time you have unlocked the moped, wheeled it out of the garage etc. locked up, changed into your biking clothes and helmet, started it, ridden the 3 miles, parked it up, locked it to something, got changed back again you might save 10 minutes compared to just walking

You can just put your helmet on and jump on a scooter, but if you fall off you will spend some time in hospital, and a while growing new skin, so you need put on some 'bike gear.]

Rubbish, 3-4 mins max each end.

Glad you mentioned that, because I had considered it but didn't want to muddy the waters of a discussion about moped/scooters.

Again, I know nothing about this area. Are battery-powered bikes the same as electric bikes? Am I best off going to a big bike shop and asking?

You should ask your employer if they are part of the "Bike to work" scheme.

Basically your employer gets a loan for the bike and any equipment you need, lights, helmet etc. and your employer deducts a monthly amount from your wages before tax and NICs, so you save around 30% as a basic rate tax-payer or 41% if higher rate.

My company allow you buy the bike for £1 at the end of the loan but this can vary, so best to check.

But then bigjl will strongly disagree with you and thinks they're the dogs what's it's.

To be honest I don't know the exact model, at first I thought it was a joey plate as it looked that bad.

Next time I see one I'll be sure to note the frame and engine number and whether the rider has ever worked for the ambulance service just to give it some credibility for you.:p

    How old is that one?

Bigjl says no bikes make it to 12 years old.
