GPS tracking watch

I was out on a group walk yesterday and it was not until we got to the start point (a 50 mile drive) that I realised I had left my tracker at home
Felt like such an idiot as I had mentioned to a couple of folk that I had bought the damn thing especially for the longer walks.0 -

I did just this. Picked up a used Garmin Forerunner 210 for £50 about 3 years ago. Its still going strong - battery power hasn't even diminished.
I picked up the Forerunner 305 for £30 including the heartrate monitor last year. Longest I have run with it for is about 4 hours, battery wasn't even half empty, I did do a 6hr walk and it managed that no problem too :TI am looking to join the club. It looks like a toss-up between a Garmin or a Tom Tom Runner. My main requirement would be that the watch would give me distance walked, time, and route taken. I also have high ground on my walks so it would also be useful to know something about the gradient.
I am also interested in the battery power. Some of the reviews suggest that battery power is somewhat limited on some GPS watches. I am looking for something that can last at least three hours with GPS signal on.
It also makes sense to get the cheapest around so would be grateful for any suggestions.
I would have thought that most modern sports type watches would easily do that sort of time without any problems.
Also most will also give all of what you say, don't forget that they sync to the computer so for garmin you will use garmin connect to analyse runs/walks (I also sync mine to strava too)“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -

Pretty much the same for the Tomtom. Think it comes down to personal preference with style and which software you prefer.
Tomtom will syncs to Endomondo, Jawbone, MapMyFitness, MyFitnessPal, NikePlus, RunKeeper, Strava, TaiwanMySports, TrainingPeaks, TulipSport, as well as its' own MySports site.
Not sure on Garmin but assume it's pretty similar.0 -

When connected to the charger it automatically connects to the TomTom cloud site and downloads all the info stored on the watch, For each session it dispays the time and distance taken in your chosen units, also, depending on chosen mode, you get steps/minute, minutes/mile, miles/hour, height climbed and a route map, there is also a graph that displays speed travelled in comparison to height climbed on your route.
At £100 it's not cheap but as I said earlier, I had vouchers to use so that brought the price down for me0 -
is GPS watch/device more accurate than phone GPS? I'm dissapointed with my phone GPS.0

Thanks for all the advice.0

Thanks for all the advice. I am looking to get the Tom Tom Runner. I had a look on-line but could not see any vouchers for Argos. John Lewis have a good reputation and have them on offer for £62.99 plus £3.50 delivery charge.
Will probably order later on today.0 -
Well I got the Tom Tom Runner. Cost me a little more than I wanted to pay but first impression is that it is good. Once you get past the little learning curve you are ready to go.
I did 4 miles yesterday, first mile up a hill. I uploaded the data to my PC and was very impressed with the graphical display.
The data showed me that it took me as long to get down the hill as up. The hill is quite steep. On the way up you are puffing and panting. On the way down your legs protest. My left leg went funny so I will have to confine todays walk to the flat. Hopefully it will all get better with a little more practice.0
