When should I convert to Turkish lira?

Be careful with ATMs many banks (all?) charge commission of 3-4%. Our preference is to make our way to the post office (PTT), who do not make a charge and use a clarity card for best rate0

There's 1000s of tourists in Istanbul every day of the year.
In the main tourist areas, Sultanahmet and Taksim there's several money change kiosks [Doviz].
Make sure...
- It doesn't charge commission.
- That the rate is clearly shown.
- Have your passport handy just in case he asks for it.
- Once the Turkish Lira have been counted out to you, don't let the money changer touch it again.
- Count it yourself in front of him [ie before you leave the counter].
- That you get a receipt.
- Don't forget to get your passport back.

If you are getting it here don't leave it till the last minute we haven't been able to order any in from Travelex for the last few days.
As for the euro rate my manager is in Italy and today out there its only 1.11 so your better buying it here.0 -
The question was for Turkish Lira not Euro...If you are getting it here don't leave it till the last minute we haven't been able to order any in from Travelex for the last few days.

I know and I offered advice on it. Where's your help? Instead of wasting a post criticising me.
A lot of people on here will be buying euros and I thought they may like to know its not good in Europe and if you can get over 1.11 its better to buy here.0 -

Though you'd be better off taking money out of an atm with a good credit or debit card, Halifax clarity, nationwide, n & p etc0 -

Hi. If the rate today in the UK is 1.185 for the euro and abroad is 1.11 would a good card make that much difference, I've never tried so genuinely interested.0
