When should I convert to Turkish lira?

So I messed up I was so certain of a remain victory I held off getting my Turkish Lira and visa until after the pound recovered. I know it wasn't the brightest and I also know that some people will tell me that I should just get the money now as we've no way of knowing the conversion rate. But I've got two weeks until our trip and we're going for quite awhile so going to convert about a grand so it'd help to get the best possible rate.

So should I wait as surely the pound has got to recover shortly? Or just bite the bullet and accept I got a worse rae because I was certain we'd stay? Thanks!

Why not hedge your bet and exchange half of your money now and see how things go in the next week for your balance when the dust may have started to settle. At least by then you should see how the market is doing .
  • That's extremely clever and I think the best way forward! Hopefully by Monday anyway the pound might recover a bit more once people realise brexit isn't the end of the world.

With the Turkish Lira in the past i've always got a better rate out there. Just change a little now and rest when there.

That's even better! We're starting in Istanbul do you have any suggestions for converting currency there?

I've never been to that part, but i would think most places would give about the same rate. Restaurants, shops lots of places to choose from.
  • Isn't euros & sterling accepted in Turkey?

I take enough for the first day then draw out from the ATM what i need in Lira. Usually get a much better rate there than here.

The standard advice for almost all countries is to get a fee-free card (e.g. Halifax Clarity) and withdraw money from ATMs when you arrive.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

    Yep, money is money.

But you'll always get a better deal by paying in Turkish Lira.

Always best to use Turkish Lira, it's Turkey after all :)
