But OP is wanting to transfer the file away from the XP machine. OP doesn't say anything about wanting to be able to edit the same file via both machines.

well, for example if its a WORD document, then open in Word 2010/13 and save as earlier version to open in earlier version on XP

How does that help the OP one little bit ?

Either you have mis-understood the original post or you are a troll.

why the hell would I be troll? i have better things do than post troll-like replies. I mean, I sat last week and designed a spreadsheet for someone one here!

I think we need some further details from OP

The op is wanting to copy the document from an older machine to a newer one, not the other way round.

what type of doc is it? and what have you got on your w10 machine?

Sadly, like a lot of queries on here.

    OP posts a query.

Folks suggest a solution based on what they think OP is looking for.

    OP doesn't reply!

JB you might be a bit premature with your condemnation ...or maybe not. It is only a couple of days since the thread was started so give him/her a chance. Not everyone had the time to be on here as frequently as others! ;)

But I would add agreement with wishing to know what the progress was on XP as a starter as it just looks like it is just a program compatibility issue with the file being opened but in the wrong prog. Could be something as simple as incorrect file association on the win 10 machine.

Come on OP! Wakey wakey :)

Doesnt help the original poster in the specific problem that they are encountering , which is that a document created on an xp/vista machine, cant be opened propperly on a W10 machine.
    Not the other way around.
