Can win 10 see the dongle .
What format is this doc .0 -
Does the USB port that you're using on the W10 laptop work with other devices? Have you tried other USB ports if there are any? I'd suspect that the 'dongle' (not really the right word but for simplicity we'll carry on using it) is a bit flakey and it's not being recognised by W10. The easy solution is to buy another 'dongle', and perhaps make sure it works on the W10 machine first.0

You will need the same or compatible office program on the W10 machine. I would suggest Open/Libra Office.0

Before suggesting any software we need to know what was used on the XP machine to create the document in the first place. To be honest, if I was in the OP's position of apparently knowing very little I'd probably let a teenager sort it out for me in about 5 minutes.0

Would it not be easier to email it to yourself?0

Probably not if the problem is one of program compatibility. If the fil opens as gobbledygook the chance are that there is nothing wrong with the file but the program opening it on Win 10 does not understand the program it was saved on in XP.
If you can tell us the name of the program you used on XP/Vista and
the program used to open it on Win 10 then progress can probably be made0 -
It possibly needs to be reopened in W10, then resaved as a XP version?0

What a load of nonsense.
Opened in what ? and an XP version of what ??
To the OP . Please tell us what kind of document it is and if you know, then what program you used to save/create it in the first place.
Then we can help you sort it out.

well, for example if its a WORD document, then open in Word 2010/13 and save as earlier version to open in earlier version on XP0
