Except any trade deal is likely to require us to abide by EU regulations but now, we really won't have any say or control over them.

Why? Does every other country outside the EU have to abide by EU regulations if it wishes to do business with EU countries? Can't recall the USA, Canada, Australia etc having to agree to open borders just to buy/sell goods with the EU!

What has free movement got to do with EU regulations?

With all the current doom and gloom with Brexit there's at least one good thing to come from it. We won't have to deal with any more EU 2 year warranty posts :D

We already have better law which says that warranties are irrelevant and that a product must last for a reasonable period of time, which may be 10 years for some products.
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

And which also ignores where UK legislation was derived from. ;)

Whoosh! That's the sound of a post going way over your head (not that I'm really surprised, some people's posts should come with a health warning, and that includes many of yours).
And it took him over 7 months to get there :D

I haven't previously seen David indulge in thread necromancy, so it was a surprise to see this thread resurface and to see who did it.

You clearly missed the point of the thread, hence the "whoosh" comments!

There are numerous threads created on this board where the OP will blather on about the "EU directive which gives me a 2 year warranty", not understanding that UK consumer law goes above and beyond what was required by the EU.

Neil's (light hearted) thread is to simply say that hopefully, with Brexit, we won't get any more of these dumb posts about the EU directive.

Neil knows full well what UK consumer law says.

    Got it now?

Why do you think that warranties are irrelevant? There are many reason why a warranty can be better than your legal rights granted by the consumer rights act.

If you have goods that go wrong more than 6 months from purchase, the CRA states that the retailer could insist that the consumer proves that the failure is due to a manufacturing defect and this is something that may be difficult or time consuming to do.
A warranty doesn't generally have a stipulation such as this so in many cases claiming on that warranty may be far easier than relying on your statutory rights.

Another point is that after 30 days, the CRA basically gives the retailer the choice to repair, replace or refund (and this can be a partial refund if over 6 months from purchase).
Many warranties will allow for a new for old replacement or a full refund and again, this may leave the consumer in a better position than if they had used their CRA rights.

Many warranties are transferrable so if you sell or give something as a present, the new owner may well be able to avail themselves of the warranty.
This isn't the case with the Consumer rights act. If you buy something then transfer ownership of that item, the new owner has no CRA rights against the retailer who initially sold it.

In your opinion, was the VAX warranty irrelevant in this case?

Just noticed, it was pointless asking DavidP a question!

Blimey, that's happened quickly, here yesterday, gone today! I wonder what he said to earn that? Although now I look closer I see that my post (quoted by neil) and his slightly abusive response have both gone, I didn't report it so I hope it wasn't somebody else taking unnecessary offense on my behalf.
