Water based paints - sanding between each coat?
Comments
-
I just run my hand over the surface.
Very light sand till feels right.
Prime bare wood.
Undercoat to give a good base.
Top coat.
The trick for a finish is being prompt an not over brushing.
2coats of each is overkill for indoor woodwork, a second topcoat to get the finish if you failed dirt time or in a hard wear area like a banister rail.0 -
To be honest, at the time i didn't really know what i was doing (still don't i suppose). I thought if i layer it up then it'd be less likely to chip. Flawed logic no doubt but it's what i did & like i said, i had time & paint.
I know i certainly needed 2 coats of top coat though because i wasn't satisfied after the first coat at any time. A professional would've no doubt done it all in a day with 1 top coat .... but at a cost of £emptyyourpockets.
Aside from the paint itself the only thing it cost me was time, but i was able to improve my painting because i was quite poor at first & made some silly mistakes which i learned from.
That's the thing - some people like to have a pop at you when you don't know, but at the end of the day i'm only trying to learn with it all & hopefully some of the stuff be able to do myself. If i need to ask 100 questions in the process then i'm not harming anyone am i
