Maybe the OP is waiting until December because he hasn't the funds to buy the ring yet, or they are in the middle of a house move, or it's an anniversary then or....insert anything in here. You get the picture and the date is irrelevant and wasn't the question.

I love the advent calendar idea. I have one with draws in that you can put your own gift in and so doing that on the 1st or another appropriate/random date of your choice would be brilliant

Send her a card through the post/letterbox (obviously when you are there to get the post). The card could ask the question for you in whatever words you want.

Get chocolates or a giant cookie with 'Will You Marry Me' on.

Take her to a place you both love/she loves/is memorable. A picnic would be nice

I am against public ones but it depends on what it is and what kind of people you are. Each to their own.

Use Google, there will be loads of ideas and you can tailor it to what you both would enjoy

    Good luck :j

The worst proposals I've seen are the people who do it on stage at a gig of some sort. This normally results in heckling. Not exactly romantic!

The advent calendar idea is lovely. It could even be like a treasure hunt one with a little rhyming clue in an envelope with where to find a small gift each day. With the final one at the Christmas tree, or with the backdrop of a roaring open fire (ok now maybe I'm getting carried away!) I would be thrilled if my OH went to the effort of doing that!! Best of luck with it :)

At ice skating ( so you can skate around holding her hand)? At a Christmas market/ alongside the river Thames? On the eye? At a show?
I don't necessarily mean at these things before or after would work.
I know you may not be in London but it might give you some ideas?

I have been married for over 16 years and still awaiting a proposal! It just kind of happened organically. For the record I had a previous showy proposal which I accepted at the time but it was hideous. Totally made me realise I didn't want to marry him. So pick something that shows you know her rather than something to make a good story. What is romantic for one couple isn't for another!

I think you'll know what sort of things you partner would love or hate, however I understand you are looking for inspiration.

I actually went for the (much maligned) public proposal. Me and my fianc! are foodies and love going to the Good Food show in Birmingham every November. Well it so happened that the annual German market fell on the same weekend so I arranged for us to go there for the day before hand. I had intended to propose next to this big fountain but it was just so busy that it was impossible. Eventually we wandered towards this massive Christmas tree, I brought her close pretending to be really interested and then got down. Although I accept it isn't something everyone would want, I really enjoyed it. Strangers were congratulating us, shaking our hands, and taking photos with us. Then we went to a nice restaurant and had a lovely meal.

Definitely not everyone's cup of tea though I'm sure!

Maybe its just me (im very romantic!) but my now wife and I spoke about it first, and then had a nice day together going around all of the local jewlers and my then fiance chose her own ring :-)
And not an actual proposal in sight....

And after all of that, really its made no difference to our lives at all!

Theres too much soppyness these days, and a lot of young men are more femanine than their partners :-) LOL

That's not what most people would call romantic by the way. someone must have said something first, even if just very casually and that's the proposal.
