contactless cards

Not all contactless transactions are reported immediately to the Bank in order for available funds to be adjusted. I check my account every morning to see if funds are required to meet these items. If so funds are transferred in on that day.
It would appear that these items are applied after I have done my checks, perhaps just before the close of business and consequently my account goes overdrawn for a day and I am charged an overdraft fee. I have no way of knowing that these items have been applied until the following day.
I now have an ordinary debit card to prevent this but due to the blip in the system I would like to reclaim charges. What do you think

I think you need to manage your account more closely and track transactions manually, if you are that close to your overdraft.0

You do know they exist though - so can take account of them
You can have the same problem with an ordinary debit card so that won't actually solve anything0 -
Debit cards are not instant either .
Use real notes and coins in your pocket .Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

No different to other methods of payments and no difference to how it has been for hundreds of years.I check my account every morning to see if funds are required to meet these items. If so funds are transferred in on that day.
That is very poor money management.I now have an ordinary debit card to prevent this but due to the blip in the system I would like to reclaim charges. What do you think
Your careless money management is not grounds for the bank to refund charges for the extra work you are creating them.

Why not leave a buffer in the account, so that the small amounts don't cause an overdraft (contactless being < £30) ?0

Even an ordinary chip and pin card won't 100% solve this, as not all transactions are notified to bank in realtime (some retailers have floor limits).
I know for instance Tescos only authorize in realtime over around £50 and maybe when they see a card for first time. Pay at pump only authorize £1, payments on train\plane are not authorized in realtime and won't show0 -

It's even sometimes possible to withdraw too much money from a cashpoint if there are pending chip and pin payments.
Poster "b&m" really needs to change radically the way he conducts his account, especially during periods when he knows that he doesn't have much money.
No charges will ever be refunded on the basis of being "caused" by Contactless Payment.0 -
Indeed. I was simply trying point out to the OP that a chip and pin card isn't necessarily the answer and won't always stop you spending money you don't have0

Spent £24 odd and had to do it as a normal chip & pin transaction.
Didn't get my TSB 5% cash-back
So unfair . . .:rotfl: wonder who can I claim it back from?;)0
