Switching broadband (Plusnet to Talktalk)

I've just switched provider, the switch itself went well, all up and running on the date Talktalk specified. As the Cheap Broadband Deals article said that it was my new provider's responsibility to cancel my old contract, I didn't inform Plusnet beforehand.
I've just had an email from Plusnet to say that the cancellation has been requested and will happen on 30 June - however my switch happened on 10 June, so basically I've been paying twice for 20 days' broadband.
Is this right - is this how it's supposed to work?

Hi onetimeatponycamp,
I’m happy to hear that you’re on of us
You would need to contact your old provide yourself to get the service/contract cancelled with them. This isn’t something that we would be able to do.
Thanks

Is not the new non MAC system all down to the gaining provider to sort out .Assuming the OP is out of contract that is .0 -
When I moved from Plusnet to Talktalk, it went like this:
Signed up on December 2nd 2015.
The service moved on December 21st 2015.
Plusnet invoiced me as per usual on the 17th.
Plusnet sent me an email December 29th saying what your email said, in my case January 6th.
I also had a refund from Plusnet for the unused portion of the month, think it was on the 29th of December just prior to cancelling the direct debit.
You should get a refund from Plusnet in due course.0
