Admin fee for buying a car

If you're only at the test drive stage, you don't want it registered to you.
There's usually a transport fee, since it's expensive to move cars about. Normally they knock it off the price. Alternatively, for £100, can you visit the car in question?
But as said, it's the total cost you're looking at, rather than individual items.0 -
So they are taking the !!!! because they publicise the charge instead of just including it in the price?
I just checked the prices of Picanto 1.0 City models for sale. Turns out that I still paid £1000/£1200 less than similar cars and that was after paying the indemnity fee.
Do you also argue that the similar charge from an auction is unfair? Or would you only be upset if it was itemised rather than just included?
Doesn't that mean you are paying more not less?[/QUOTE]
There's a difference between auction house fees and this fee! The two aren't even comparable! And if the advertised car is £1000 cheaper you would rather pay the extra money instead of buy the one where they list these charges as on top of the screen price?
I'd walk not because of price because it's shoddy!!
And a thousand quid cheaper.. ! Highly unlikely!! What you really mean is your comparing your LX to a Titanium0 -

That fee will also include the cost of the HPi check and the associated Indemnity coverage.
Have paid the fee several times when buying from CarGiant.
Simply add it to the advertised price.
If the total is more than a similar car elsewhere then buy elsewhere.
I have never found any of the cars where there was an indemnity few payable to be more expensive so I had nonissue paying it. And as the fee is widely advertised you can't say you didn't know before hand.
But no, you can't register yourself as the owner, the current owner/keeper/trader/dealer must do that. When I bought the Picanto CG also sorted out the Roadtax online when I signed the V5.
If £100 or so is a deal breaker than perhaps you can't actually afford the car?
As my Picanto was roughly £1000 cheaper than similar cars on Autotrader (mostly from Kia dealers) I had no issue with the fee.
Though I have seen a franchised dealer charging such a fee in order to get the sticker price below a certain price point (£9999 or £5999 etc) to make the car look more attractive.
I did mine myself online after buying from a dealer0 -

Your post is a bit confusing as you have not used the quote function correctly.
But, no I am not comparing LX with Titanium (partly because It isn't a Ford) I was comparing 1.0 City with 1.0 City they only seem to come in Silver or Metallic Red.
Mine had 7k on it when bought in February.
Including fees it was £5698.
Identical cars are still for sale via Kia dealers for between £6500 and £7000.
And this is nearly 5 months later.
Glad to see you think spending £1000 or more extra to avoid paying a £99 fee is a good way to save money.0 -

Then the dealer was either stupid or very trusting as it is the sellers responsibility to inform the DVLA of the new keeper details, not the buyer.0 -
No but taking the pith is a deal breaker, they should cover all their costs in the headline price.
I just wouldn't entertain it. Mind you I wouldn't buy a car from a dealer anyway.
Very MSE.
After all £99 is much less than £1000.
It's all marketing BS done because some people believe buyers are fooled by a price just under £6000 or £5500 etc.0 -

I think it was the former
They gave me the whole V5 including the bit they were supposed to keep, to save me a trip back I did it online and worked out ok0 -
Hey folks, thanks for all the replies!
There is a £200 deposit for getting the car moved for me to see it, it is refunded either way.
I get what some of you are saying about it just being part of the negotiation. As with most things like this though I think that if they need to do something in order for the transaction to happen (me becoming the owner of the car in this case) then an admin fee is BS
It just surprised me that's all. This will be my first time buying a car and I'm quite ignorant so any extra fees etc are a bit daunting
they also were trying to flog me some kind of coating for both the fabric and the bodywork £199!!
thanks for the varied views haha.
If anyone's interested it's a hyundai i10 I'm after, I'm kinda torn between the 1.0 and the 1.2 If anything the 1.0 seemed quite a bit smoother0 -
Who is the dealership? Is it as suggested one of the big nationals (Evans Crapshaw, Arnold Shark, etc?)0
