Stay with them? No chance, £10 a month for a 2mb line with just 1gb included. Whereas with talktalk I get up to 8mb line and 40gb included for free (ish, I no this is factored into the phone cost).
You may find that upto 8M is really 2M in reality. It's all down to the state of your phone line and distance from the exchange. If you are already on an upto 8M service with Plusnet and only getting 2M, chances are other ISPs will be similar. If you are on a fixed 2M service from Plusnet, you might want to check their Broadband Your Way options (upto 8M from £9.99).

I did the Plusnet house move thing back in July and it told me upfront about the £40 activation charge which I could either pay up front, or stay for 12 months and not pay. I actually had to choose which option I wanted to continue. Interesting that you managed to find a way round this!

The talktalk tests on our line said we'd get 7.xM. Also, talktalk use their own equipment at our local exchange, so this may explain the difference.

It's entirely possible I did have to pick defer or pay up front when I initiated the move request. It was 4 months ago so I don't honestly remember.

I'm still fighting with them so we'll see. My main point is that I'm leaving because they didn't deliver the service I was expecting (they've made two enormous !!!!-ups in recent months).
So, I want to go elsewhere. Therfore, I shouldn't have to pay.

We'll see.... It's good fun if nothing else :)

Possibly. There are so many different bits and pieces with their own speeds but at the end of the day, you can only go as fast as the slowest. My ADSL modem syncs with the local exchange at around 6M to 7M but at the end of the day, my typical overall broadband speed is around 3.8M.
