Hi, some help please.
Bought this 2 mths ago (first smartphone). EE through in a 8gb card in the back.
I keep getting notifications that "there is insufficient storage to download updates"
The SD card shws that 7.2gb is free, but that the phone itself is full.
I have a fair few apps (40) some of which were already there.
'Storage' shows;
Total space 8gb (coincidence ? same as card)
Available space 400mb
System memory 3.35gb
used space4.00gb
Cached data 122mb
Misc files 145mb

Shouldnt the space on the card give me loads of capacity for storage/downloads/apps ?

What am I missing ? (Have been to EE shop but no great help there

    Hello,

    I think the J5 runs Android 5 (Lollipop) doesn't it?

    I've found the following YouTube video: https://youtu.be/rVdChvXq3Bg. Some apps (but not all) can be transferred to the SD Card to free up some of the phone's storage.

    I'd also recommend using Google Photos to store your photos (you can either choose Unlimited Storage with the images stored in a certain resolution or the original image files which is capped at 15GB or whatever allowance you have with Google Drive).

    It sounds as if your phone hasn't been correctly configured to store specific files, such as photos, music etc, onto the sd card.

    There is probably a file manager type of app on the phone which will show you where files are stored and their size and if you go into camera and music player settings you should be able to see the current settings for those files.

    You could also connect your phone to a pc and then view and move files around via the pc file manager. That's how I copy my music onto my phone, a simple copy and paste operation.

    It should have come with a usb cable. Use that to plug it into your pc. It'll detect it and load drivers, and then the phone will show up as an external drive. Usually one drive for the storage on the phone and one for the sd card.
    You then just move files around.

    You may need to install Samsung USB drivers on the PC .

    If your phone came with Marshmallow then the default on connecting your phone to the pc is 'charging'. You will need to change the connection setting via your phone (options will appear on the screen) to enable the link to your pc.

    plugged phone in, it installed (it is ALSO charging), drivers in,

    phone now shows USB PC connection, connect as;

    Media Device (MTP) Allows you to transfer media files in Windows.
    OR
    Camera (PTP) Allows you to transfer photos using camera software and files onto PC that do not support MTP

    does any of this allow me to move apps on the phone, to the SD card ?

    Simply install this App from the Google Play store on your phone.

    It will show you which Apps (if any)you can move to the SD card

    You maybe need Android 6 (marshmallow) and the SD card to be mounted as internal storage

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd

    An 8Gb internal memory has only under 4GB available, because the system uses the rest to operate

    If above does not work, delete some of your apps

    or buy a phone with at least 16GB
