Because they are actully very good and have decent reviews. I know you can find copies of the reviews on the internet, but when I was looking for a new PDA I found the money spent on buying one of these magazines worth while."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
i've seen a few issues of PDA essentials, and they do seem to be very good at what they do
i wouldnt need anything too swanky, just as an alternative to the traditional paper diary in the hope that i can organise myself a bit better!!!!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Basically there are two types of PDA: Palm based and Windows based
Palm based ones are normally smaller and lighter and they have a smaller "footprint", this means they use a lot less memory.
Windows based run on Windows Mobile, which you will have guessed is a form of Microsoft Windows, but specifically adapted for PDAs.
Problem with Palm is syncing up with Microsoft Outlook, for your contacts, emails etc, especially if you use Outlook at work (like I do). There are ways round it, but apparantly it gets a bit convoluted.
HP Ipaq make a range of PDAs and are pretty good, however a tiny bit pricey. Dell also make Windows based PDAs and are reckoned to be good value (i.e. cheap). One thing with Dell PDAs though is they can sometimes be a bit on the larger side, but then again they are cheaper. Dell PDAs can be found here: http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/handheld?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
If you're not fussy about having the latest greatest, you might try looking for a palm Vx on ebay. It's an oldy but a goody....
Black and white, but does the main pda type things (email (sync's my outlook fine), calendar, contacts etc.)
GREAT design, to be honest the design's yet to be bettered IMHO, slim, metallic, nothing fancy, just classy.
It's palm, so there's a HUGE ammount of other software for it, its still pretty popular, so there are still accessories etc (like the fold away keyboard which would top my list).
I recently traded up cos I wanted colour to look at pics & something to play mp3's. But if you're after a PDA to do PIM management on the go then I'd take a look at the Vx....
If this isn't your bag, then as Pin said, you've the 2 main choices. I'd not agree about the syncing pal to outlook issues, mine works fine?
The windows ones are moving ahead a little faster now, with bigger better hardware to run on, but both OS's have a number of manafacturers making devices.
I guess a question back at you is what do you think you'd use it for???0 -

Sorry, I thought you required third party software. I obviously have it wrong. Thanks for claryfying (sp?) that."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
