Darlin' you got to let me know...Should I stay or should I go?

Options
Ok, so I've been with PlusNet for nearly 4 and a half years now and my contract is coming to an end. I'm also moving house.

And PlusNet don't want to see to give me a decent price! Boo!

I would say I've been paying an average of £22 a month for unlimited fibre (expected 37mb but never got above 27mb). Stable service, good customer service...but the best price then want to give me over the course of 24 months is £29.49 pcm.

Rang tonight to get their feedback and got a month free. This takes my average cost down to £28.26 a month for 2 years. Engineer to install a new line and get me up and running has been waived (£130 according to them) and is booked in for the 28th!

Now, as some may have seen, BT have posted that stonker of a cashback deal for £21.77 a month for just 12 months on pretty much the same terms I'd be getting. This includes activation fee, line install and router delivery. If doing it online, I'd pay the extra tenner for the TV box/Sports and £60 to get an aerial installed but that's my choice.

My first question is is the £49 engineer fee to do a full install with BT worth it? The installation point will be where the box will be kept no doubt anyway...don't need anything running around any skirting boards...plus I can plug in a router.

Secondly, should I go to BT?

My view is that for £6.49 more a month, am I getting that much of a better service? I do like how PlusNet don't throttle, have very little downtime and have a stable service. But the price, reliable service, basic sports package is appealing.

I have 2 days to decide! :rotfl: Help meee!

One point is that you are already with BT in that PN is owned by BT and runs over BT infrastructure .

Not sure what the £49 install actually consists of as i just plugged the BT box in .

Not sure who you spoke to at Plusnet but if that £22 a month includes line rental you have a stonking good deal. If not you need to re-evaluate your negotiating skills. My Unlimited Fibre Extra costs me £12.50 a month on a loyalty deal of 24 months. I negotiated that about a year ago with no problem at all and without really trying all that hard.

It's in the cheap fibre section this week - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband#btfibre

    It's actually £19.27 a month all in!

I've been given the 'loyalty' deal but then line rental is £16.99 pcm...so makes it £29.49.

I terms of reliability like the above said, I know PN piggy on BT...I just don't get why they won't try keep a long term customer.

I guess if they won't haggle and you can get a better deal elsewhere then it's time to move on. Don't forget to check and use if possible TopCashback/Quido/whoever to maximise the benefits of any switch.

I just phoned and asked what deals they could do for me when my 18 month minimum was up and they asked what deals I'd seen. In my case it was SSE who were offering a pretty cheap deal at that time and they matched it. I don't think I'd go with their 40Mbps product now to save money as the 2Mbps upstream they are offering is very miserly. I value the fixed IP they offer most of all as no other cheap ISP I'm aware of does that so I'd probably have stayed regardless.
  • isnt going through tcb better rather than mse deal?
£111cashback and upto £125 for fibre 52mb deal
