Argos Faulty Cooker 13 Months Old

I purchased a cooker from Argos 13 months ago, so it is 1 month outside their store guarantee of 12 months.

The multi function switch is faulty, so the cooker cannot be used.

The best Argos will offer is an outside of warranty repair, which costs nearly as much as the cooker did new.

Where do I stand with this?

You need to get an independent report to check if this was an inherent manufacturing defect. If it comes back as it is then Argos need to refund, repair or replace the cooker (at their discretion as to which they do) + cover the cost of the report.

How did you pay for the item? Was it by credit card?

Complain via your store cards terms and conditions to Thynne Street, Bolton BL11 1AS or email them at customercare-resolutions@homeretailgroup.com". Your complaint should be that they are unreasonably denying a claim to repair/replace/refund you fault cooker (which has been subject to only normal usage) after only 13 months. Add that you believe this shows, on the balance of probability, that the cooker was inherently faulty by being insufficiently durable.

Ask for a copy of their complaint procedure and state that you feel strongly about the matter and will take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service if necessary.

Then wait to see how they respond. They may request an independent report, but they may not. (If they do request such a report ask them for the names of some firms that do reports that would be acceptable to them, and to confirm they will pay the cost if the cooker is found to be inherently faulty.)

FYI: Read section "Our Customer Satisfaction Procedure" of the following link:

Contacted argos on Tuesday, today they have offered me a replacement oven.

Problem solved, thanks for your help and well done to argos.
