You have till 8pm? Don't give up yet!!
  • The only time I have majorly lost something for work was my phone. It had slid right under my drivers seat in a spot that was almost impossible to find until I put my seat into the weirdest angle ever and stuck my head right under and found the under the seat 'blind spot'. Actually I also lost an important item that was never found in another work place. I concluded it had probably flown out the window going fast on the motorway on a hot day with the window all the way down!

I hope you find them. For a while I was forever losing my keys, I was going through a tough time and was forgetful.

But now, I have a tag that has my mobile number on it in case they are found. I also have a clip on the keyring that attaches the keys to the zip lever in any bag I use. Haven't lost them since touch wood.

Just to mention the one time I lost them was when I was getting out of the car. They must have been on my lap and they fell onto the road, but someone found them and left them in the local shop. I just checked around the shops in the area to see if anyone had handed them in as I suspected that was what had happened. And voila! I learned my lesson though.

Is there any chance they could be at work somewhere, say the loo or reception or something like that.

I found my house keys in a bag for life several weeks after losing them. Can only conclude they slid out of my handbag whilst at the supermarket till or fell out of my hand into the bag after I'd unlocked the door at home.

I think OP was more concerned about the employer's right to make him/her pay for the missing keys TBH.

I just hope the cost is deducted on an affordeable basis, if the keys were not located.

Pockets.....ive taken the store room key home a few times and not realised till ive gone to wash my uniform. I got lucky though, if i'd lost that key i;d probably have been looking at gross misconduct in my place for taking company property home and putting them at the risk of theft.

However thats in a situation where im not meant to take them hom, i assume the OP is supposed to take them so hopefully they may be more lenient. If you have an employer handbook have a look to see what the disciplinary procedure is. It may just be a written warning etc. Though i do think you need to be prepared to pay the £500 for changing the locks.

Ok guys so here's a little update on my situation. I didnt manage to find the keys in the end so I got called in for a disciplinary last Friday. Today I have just received a final written warning for what they consider gross misconduct. The cost of having the locks changed was £273. Now I accept that I am going to have to pay that. But with my final written warning they have said they are going to take £54.70 each week out of my wages which I haven't consented to. So my question is? Is that legal bare in my I have a young family to support
  • Did you ever have the opportunity to sign a written contract? With one section or sub heading especially entitled "Deductions from pay agreement" or simliar words.

In the last contract I refused for a multiple of reasons it did have this situation covered as full payback plus disciplinary proceedings - I'm just curious for you, albeit clutching at straws no doubt, if you did ever sign anything to the knowledge of??
