Help lost work keys

Ive managed to lose the keys for my place of work. I've searched high and low with no joy. Ive been given until the end of day to find them. If not found by then all the locks at work are going to have to be changed which I have been told will be charged to myself at a cost of approx £500 and a disciplinary. Now u fully expect to be disciplined but can I be charged this personally. Or should it be a case for the company insurance. Advice most welcome. Thank you

Insurance may cover it, but they may only cover for theft of keys, damage to locks etc or the excess might be £500 anyway so no point claiming. Also your employers insurance premiums would likely increase on renewal due to a claim being made.

Ask your employer if you can pay back in instalments.

And this is the sort of thing you could get dismissed for. Losing the keys for the workplace is a big deal. So if it means you keep your job, that may be the price of it.

You lost them, you pay for them. Take some responsibility.

edit: forget 'some', replace with 'all'

If they've told you it'll cost £500 then I would say it's almost certain their insurance doesn't cover it due to their excess policy.

The £500 excess is there to deter people from not taking care of the keys because they know the insurance will cover them.

    Hope you find them.

Probably unhelpfully obvious advice but have you tried retracing your steps - working out where you definitely had them last, going back to that spot, trying to remember where you might have put them, and so on. There's a 95% chance they're exactly where you left them. I've done my fair share of "losing" keys and they've always turned up in some stupid spot where I've put them down "just for the moment" while I fiddle with my mobile or turn the TV on, then left them there.

Post on FB, I saw a post last week about keys found locally and they were returned to their owner. Long shot but worth a go.

Thanks for your reply. I've been searching high and low all day still had to no. Ive got until 8pm to find them at which point ive got to ring him and tell him the horrible news. Knowing my luck all the locks etc will be changed in the next day or 2 and then the lost keys will turn up. I'm more than sure I haven't lost them. I'm so careful normally. There probably just in a safe place but I just can't think straight

Good luck finding them, I assume you've tortured yourself thinking back when you last had them, where you could have dropped them etc....

Calm down. If you drink alcohol, just for once have an early drink. Sit down, Sip a drink. ONE drink! It will calm you and relax you - and then you might remember! I have so often spent ages looking for something to find it in the exact spot I had searched twelve times already, but was so panicked about that I actually didn't see what I was looking for! It was only when I stopped being so panicked that I could see them....

Do you drive to work? Check between the seats, I'm forever dropping stuff there.
