O/S Daily Thread for Monday 20th June

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
4am start again here, hey ho could be worse, hubby is on the early shift so we can go to bed early.
Both my DD's visited yesterday with the DGC, they bought Fathers Day cards round for hubby, it means so much to him as he is their stepfather.
Please keep everything crossed for hubby as he tries to find a new job at 60, mostly he doesn't even get a reply to his applications.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning All
Hope DH finds something soon HH.
Good luck today RR.
Gosh it got wet yesterday, I was in Glasgow and it was overcast but dry then about 2pm it started to rain, looked like it had been raining for some time here when I got back. Still it's better today and quite breezy which is quite nice.
Got a couple of bits yesterday, took DD to the supermarket then came home and lazed about watching TV. We had been out for lunch (I had a lovely cajun chicken salad) so I didn't want much to eat, just had some strawberries and yogurt.
Last full week at work for me before the holidays, so much still to do!
Have a good week. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all. Thanks for starting us off again HESTER and good luck to your DH in trying to find an easier job more suited to his age. Something will turn up I'm sure.
We got the promised rain yesterday teatime but it stopped overnight and now we are forecast a nice few days. We seem to have escaped quite a lot of the June downpours up here but the days have still been short of sunshine!
We got our Isle of Wight coach trip booked yesterday to coincide with DD's annual 3 week stay down there. It'll be lovely to play on the beach and in the sea with the girls. We are there for their second week - Aug 20th. They stay near Cowes and we are staying in Shanklin so not too far apart. Maybe I'll bump into Jackie!
Yesterday's chicken carcase is simmering away with some beans/pulses and I will make a chicken broth shortly for Mr TA's lunches for a couple of days. The leftover chicken was sliced off and I'll have that with some salad.
DD's bf is still in France. Over the weekend they travelled from Lens to their St Etienne hotel for tonight's England game. I just hope there is no more trouble and, if there is, they are not caught up in it. It's sad that a few stupid yobs manage to ruin the experience for those who just want to enjoy the football and atmosphere. DD will be glad when he is safely back here.
DD and the girls called in yesterday on their way home from the 'van. Armed with cards, choccies and wine for grandad. Needless to say the choccies were soon opened and they scoffed the top layer themselves before leaving!
I need to pop in town at some point today. There are odd things I need, including a hair dye to touch up my roots!
Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all.
Good luck Mr Hester, hope the job search goes well.
Damp start to the day today, a world of soggy out there, and I feel quite cold. Woken by some unidentifiable noise at 2.30 and I did try to go back to sleep but it didn't work.
I have a big list of things to get done but there are a couple of work jobs that must be completed and my laptop is playing up, oh joy.
Must have more tea!I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's absolutely pouring down here this morning. DD16 is so happy she doesn't have to go to school in it but the other girls are not so happy as they have a long walk to get to school. Hubby has just left for work clutching his umbrella. Luckily it's not windy else he would be doing a Mary Poppins.
I had a bit of a mixed weekend, the girls gave hubby a nice present and cards for Father's Day which was lovely but I really missed my own dad. He passed away about 10 years ago now but I think about him a lot. I also found out through Facebook that all my sisters, mum and nieces and nephews got together on saturday for a party and yet again I and my family weren't invited. I feel so so hurt and it just reinforces my thoughts about not being good enough. My one sister came here from Wales and didn't even pop in for an hour to see us. I just feel so left out. Thank goodness for good friends.
Anyway, I have SW tomorrow, I think I have lost weight this week but I will wait and see what the scales say. I haven't been to group for a couple of weeks so it will be nice to see everyone again.
I spent most of Saturday batch cooking for the week ahead. So tonight we have bolognese pasta bake with salad. I am going to attempt the famous SW burger in a bowl recipe for lunch for me and DD16.
Well I hope you all have a great day despite the weather. Take care xx0 -
Good morning everyone.
After the drenching yesterday the weather looks better so there's hope of a dry day again.
Good luck to Mr H - age shouldn't be a barrier (legally speaking) but fingers crossed anyway.
Yesterday really was my lazy day and I so enjoyed it. Today I'll be more active. There's stuff for the tip and a little light shopping to do. I'll even run my fabulously easy to use new vacuum over a couple of floors! I've got some building work taking place soon, one bit in a couple of weeks and the bigger piece before the end of August so I'm not sressing about dust.
The ABs I got from the doc on Friday for my awful nasal condition are clearing up the infection really quickly. She thinks I've got chronic sinisitius and referred me to ENT. That's as well as the ECG this Friday. All a bit worrying.
TA - great that you've got another trip planned.
Elona - your kitchen sounds almost nearly finished, well done for putting up with it all.
Happy Monday everyone.0 -
Morning all,
Thanks for the good wishes re the interview, its tomorrow thank goodness which gives me another day to practice, there are others being interviewed today so I should be able to see what I am up against ! I am really nervous about it for some reason but what will be will be !
Hester good luck to your DH x
Pouring with rain here and quite cold, it will be quiet at work today as the rain keeps people away, DD has the day off today and has a driving lesson, she can be in charge of dinner tonight which is yet to be christened but might be spag bol.
Tonight will be putting the PowerPoint together and practicing like mad so no OS being done !
Have good days all xx0 -
Hi everyone,
Good luck MrH with the job search xx
Dumpling - sending hugs xxx Families can be really odd sometimes, you sound a lovely person. Good luck at SW later xxx
DH will take DS1 back to the scene of the accident later to see whether there are any CCTV cameras which might have caught the incident. His foot is now black and he can't bear any weight on it, but it's definitely not broken as it was X rayed.
I'm off to the church this morning. Lots to do including printing the monthly magazine. Also the door handle fell off the main door yesterday so I need to call a locksmith in. I swear the older church congregation have strength of steel sometimes!
Not going to SW later as DH didn't get a Father's Day. We will eat together then watch the game.
Have a good day all

Morning everyone,
Dull and wet here, hoping it will clear up later.
Back to work today after our holiday, I do feel refreshed and raring to go but that might not last long depending on what mood my supervisor is in!
Out for a nice meal last night with DSS's, we went to Wildwood, food was reasonable but they were busy so service was horrendously slow, still gave us all a good chance to chat and catch up on busy lives. Youngest has his Physics re-take today, one more next Monday and he finished until he goes off to Uni in september. The eldest starts his last year in the Autumn. They are good lads, trying to get some work in the holidays so suggested they helped their Dad with some decorating and we will pay them. Jumped at the chance :j
Good luck to Mr Hester, hopefully some wise HR person will see the benefit of experience
Also good luck to RR with the interview today.
Feel better soon Gers
Hugs to Dumpling, families can be so hurtful at timesMy youngest brother and his wife regularly leave DOH and me out of family parties coz they "preferred" my ex. It still hurts but have to learnt to live with it, can't force them to include us so we will just carry on and enjoy our lives. They did the same to my eldest brother when he was alive and then seriously regretted it when it was too late.
Anyways, better get a wiggle on, have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -

Good luck to OH Hester x
Coxy Hope your son heals quickly x
topsy ThanksIt took months for Scampi to trust me, then he had to learn as if he was a new pup (he'd learned a lot already but his mistrust in people set him right back). Then he had to get over his fear of anything that moved when we were out of the house – one fear at a time. We're almost there and I'm so proud of him but I'm exhausted and don't think I can do all this again

I'm back on brufen for my leg  I didn't fall or bash it or anything, but over the last couple of days it's got really painful so I must've done something awkwardly. I need slip-on shoes, I can't get down low enough to do the lace up on my right footI've tied the lace loosely enough to slip the shoe on, I just hope it's not too loose and starts falling off when I'm out and about, lol.
LM is very excited, his potatoes have grown well and have lots of flowers, his tomato plants have flowers too AND one tiny tomato
I trimmed the excess leaves off my tomato plants yesterday. There are plenty of flowers and a few tomatoes. Three of my cuc plants sprang back to life and there are four small but healthy cucumbers growing, with a few tiny ones struggling. The plants look good and are climbing so hopefully there'll be more fruit. Also picked some cherries and gooseberries.
It's now officially summer so obviously it's raining heavilyMost of today's plans involved being outside so I'll have a rethink. I have some paperwork to do and want to vacuum the house but that's not going to fill my day. I'll wait til everyone's left for work then decide what to do.
