X series slingbox /orb question.

We have really awful freeview signal and really are too lazy/don't watch enough TV to get sky (and cable wont run it up the drive to the house:mad: ).

Anyway, a while ago I got a pooter with a TV card and finally got it working with a loft aerial that is stiing ontop of the wardrobe (pooter in the bedroom) and so I do have digital TV:T but noone else does:rotfl:

At the moment I video/write to disc stuff for the kids- pain as half the time it wont play in the DVD player and the downstairs PC is near dead!

I think that, with X series I should be able to "bounce" the TV signal either from my PC or a TV set up with a slingbox upstairs downstairs via the Wii console. Does this sound right???

Putting a set top box downstairs runny from the bedroom aerial would, DH thinks, involve re wiring the aerial cable as this is old, and he thinks part of the problem with poor signal strength.

Complex or what:rotfl: maybe I should just get sky (and take a day of to have it installed, plus all the times it doesn't work etc- nah! don't think so!!)

You won't need x-series for this, just the slingbox and an internet connection. X-series is for mobile phones only - using your phone as a modem is against the 3 T&Cs. To be honest though, the slingbox picture isn't great for viewing on larger screen sizes, but perfectly good on a mobile phone.

You don't need x-series for Orb either, or any special equipment. Just go to the orb website, create an account then you can view files from the pc upstairs on any other pc with an internet connection.

Have you thought about getting an AV sender, much cheaper and easier?

Or a network mediaplayer? (Not for live tv though) I use and would recommend Freecom Network mediaplayer drive-in kit (ie it's a kit because you put your own hdd inside, which means it'll last you years - if the drive fails you can replace it yourself), they now also do a wifi version. You can transfer files to it or steam them over your network.
