Guess the pipe (found in my garden)

Hi all,

So, digging out a concrete channel to remove/replace the undersized SWA going to the garage, we come across this pipe. Its not very deep beneath the concrete and takes out any chances of having a "Channel Drain" across the pathway.

Ideas? ~ I thinks its supposed to be deeper than this..we suspected it to be the gas pipe going to the meter.

Its metal so bends are hard, where is it heading to in a straight line, it could be anything, including a 415v 500 amp feed.

Get someone to put their ear against the gas pipe near to the meter and then give the suspect pipe a gentle tap. If they are one and the same, you should easily be able to feel the tapping.

I'd say it could be the electricity supply.

Can you see where each of your services come in to the house? If you can identify where they come from in the pavement or road outside it might give a clue if it follows a straight line from that end to the other IYGWIM

Given the proximity to the gas meter box and the fact it looks like my gas pipe I'd put money on it being the gas...

If that is the gas meter I'd agree, looks like the old iron pipes used before plastic.

I don't know if there is a required depth for a gas supply given freezing won't hurt it.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Thanks all, wanted to see what people think. Sadly its right in the way and im sure its supposed to be deeper than that. Apparently if i damage it myself, they will come repair it for free.

Obvious that repair would include making it the right depth in that location...

Presumably they'll put the new pipe at the bottom of the new crater.

Looks quite old, it might not still be 'live' whatever it is.

Perhaps it's not a pipe. It could be the middle of a small bomb.
