Hi,

My husband is with EE and is now due his upgrade. Wants to stay with Samsung, the S7 Edge seems to be the latest one. To upgrade to that would be iro £50pm which seems a lot.

So I'm going to shop around. He works in Norway and phones home almost every day, therefore he definitely needs a contract with minutes from abroad.

Can anyone recommend any good deals, or comparison sites where I can select this option?

Thanks :money:

EE do what you want, he just needs to sign up to an EE Extra plan.

They include calls and texts to the UK and in the following countries:
Austria, Azores, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guyana, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Guernsey, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Jersey, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madeira, Malta, Martinique, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican.

    What's included?

    Calls and Texts

If you’re on an EE Extra plan then making calls and sending texts back to the United Kingdom, or to any of the eligible countries, will come out of your inclusive minutes or text messages as part of your price plan.

What’s included at no extra charge:

Making and receiving calls and sending texts when you’re in an eligible country (e.g. a call from France to France)
Calls and texts to the United Kingdom from any of the eligible countries (e.g. a call from France to UK)
Calls and texts from any of the eligible countries (excluding the United Kingdom) to any other eligible country (eg - A call from France to Spain
    Calls to your voicemail

I know that EE do that, it will be roughly£50. I just wanted to find out who else does similar so I can compare.

It's not compulsory to 'upgrade' you know - keep the phone, get a SIM only deal and save £££'s :)

Would he not be better with a Norwegian 'deal'???

What allowance does your £50 deal offer? sim only EE extra plans start at £17.99 a month.

You can work out the cost of the phone by comparing the sim only plan cost to the allowance plan you are being offered.

The Galaxy S7 Edge is £629 sim free, so remove £26 from the monthly fee, you are therefore paying around £24 a month for the allowance in the EE deal you mention...

Having a look at the EE site, the s7 edge contracts aren't that bad, a 10GB price plan would work out at £26 a month when you remove the sim free price of the phone.

I doubt any other contract with included European use would be cheaper.

He can probably benefit from having a few minutes, but have you considered Skype or similar to make free calls via data on WiFi or 3G/4G?

Lots of folks phone overseas relatives and friends "daily", the most common method is via data using iMessage, Skype or similar, for free, rather than calling via a normal phone call. You can have a video link and see each other too.
  • OP, you could consider going down the SIM-only contract route and buying the phone separately, it is often cheaper overall this way.
