Virgin Media Deals

Options
I have been with VM for the last 3 years and want to reduce the costs. They offer new customers some much better rates but they won't offer them to me as an existing customer.

I am thinking of cancelling my contract and then taking a new one out at the end of the 30 day notice period.
Is there any reason why I shouldn't?
Has anyone done this?

Are you out of minimum term? If so and you tell them you are thinking of cancelling and going with "abc" instead to save some money they will cut you a deal. Retention deals are typically better than new customer deals. If you don't get transferred you are not with retentions who I believe are always UK based. Don't accept anything worse than a new customer deal. Go as far as actually cancelling as you can always retract later before the cutoff date.

    Dial 150

And select thinking of leaving for another reason.

    Tell them it's too expensive.

I currently pay 25.25 for up to 150mbps Virgin broadband. Have had a £10 a month discount for last 18 months, that's discount is due to end on the 15th July 2016.

Tried today to get them to extend the discount for another year and they wouldn't budge, only way to reduce monthly amount would be to lower my broadband speed.

So I offered my 30 day cancellation, and they took it without question.
So does anyone reckon I'll get a deal or am I asking for to much

The odds are you were not talking to the proper retentions team. I expect you will be getting a phone call from them. They have far fewer 150Mbps customers than lower speed ones and I doubt they'll be wanting to lose one unless you've been torrenting 24x7.

No it wasn't rententions, just customer service...says over the last month I had used about 175gb....which is quite true....often when I am off for a week I'll blast through a box set from sky..

Will see if I get a further phone call

IMO 170GB a month isn't excessive these days - what is the point of a fast internet service if all you do is browse.

If they don't call and you want to stay with them you can always call back - I'd leave about a weeks margin but you could probably sail a lot closer to the wind than that.

Sometimes the sky box clashes with mine and er's stuff, so I mark down what I wanna watch and then watch it when I want....quite handy to select a program to download and be able to watch it seconds later.

I'm happy paying 25 for this level of speed...not gonna pay 35, so I'll switch to BT fibre if I have to
