NatWest Student Account Debit Card

Hi. I hope you can help me.
My friend has recently set-up a NatWest Student account. Now, she has been waiting weeks and so far she has go the terms, internet banking access, and loads of other NatWest mail (most for the goodies). Now, she has also received the credit card (and PIN) which comes with the account. However, she has not received the debit card. At first, I thought it was because people had to put at least £100 into the account before the card is issued (this is what my bank does), but, after reading the Student Account Term (x3) it doesn't mention you have to have any money before the card is issued (my bank's Terms and Conditions clearly state this).
If you have a NatWest account, what happened with your debit card?
Many Thanks!

Yes, I am also waiting for my card.
If its true that you got yours straight away Swirlywurly, I will go into my Natwest and find out what has happened. I have even got a cheque book but not a debit card. Bit annoying really!Graduating from Post Grad course.... :T

Erm i didn't get it straightaway, i had to wait a while. But i didn't get a credit card until i applied for one. And that didn't happen until my third year. I still haven't used it!Student MoneySaving Club member 0210 -
When I set up my student account with Natwest I was told that they had to send the card to my branch rather than my home. I thought that was strange because I explained that I wasn't going to be going to uni for a while so it was fine to send it to my house but they told me it was standard practice. My mortgage costs me a sobering £13.06 A DAY!:mad:That's about 5 pairs of shoes a month i'm missing out on! :eek:0

Sorry to derail the thread slightly, but I applied for the Natwest student account today and was told that my application (with full overdraft) was approved "in principle" - is this normal?Student MoneySaving Club Member Number 007!0

Just wondering, are you sure it is a credit card? Only my Switch card (not NatWest) says it is a Visa Debit card: you might see the word 'visa' and think 'credit'. I know that would have been my first thought a few years ago!Signature removed for peace of mind0

I have to say I've had an awful experience with Natwest's students accounts....I asked for a debit card, it never arrived, I asked for a cheque book, which didn't arrive. They promised me I could have my overdraft straight away (I was only 17 at the time so I checked, double checked and triple checked, but the manager of my branch was adamant!) Obviously this didn't happen, however after all this checking I believed them.. and ended up with me in asda crying because I had no money, no food etc etc! I wanted to get the rail card but they never sent anything to me about getting one; and when they EVENTUALLY sent me the application it was after the date you could get one (bearing in mind this is late december, when I applied for the account late july....). And now I'm told you can only apply for the railcard in your first year.. Truly am hacked off. When I (well, my mum!) first complained, they said they'd refund any rail costs, but of course, nothing happened here either.
Sorry for this hugely long post but I had to WARN YOU ALL!!!!0 -
Thanks for all your replies.
The card she has is a credit card (says MasterCard on it).
We'll try and pop into the branch, or failing that ring NatWest and see what they have to say for themselves. I hate companies that make claims on TV ads (looking after customers) that they don't keep.
As I said, on-line banking is working ... but know card to access the account through the branch or machine."Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."

when do you get the free railcard. do you have to deposit anything0

With Natwest, you will get a Maestro Debit Card.
The credit card is a Mastercard.
You will usually receive your pin and chequebooks first, then your debit card.
The railcard is free to all 1st year applicants, and will arrive usually within 4 weeks.
I have never had a problem with natwest, and currently have an overdraft of £1800 (4th year).
If you do have a complaint, ask for the "customer relations" team when calling their actionline. They will deal with any complaint promptly and discreetly.
