Disfigurement from using a beauty product, what are my rights?

I have found the non peroxide version on sale in the UK
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cougar-Non-Peroxide-Teeth-Whitening-Pen/dp/B008JEFJZK
I gather then that OP bough an imported product. So I have copied the original posts so this goes as another warning to others who would think that ordering these products from overseas is safe!
Though I am not a dentist, I am sure there is one who lurks around the board, and would have something to say about teeth whitening!
Mid you, I have this morning cleaned my alloy wheels on my motor and that is a peroxide mixture, and the warnings on the bottle are as follows. Irritant. Harmful to eyes and skin. I use gloves, and certainly would not consider using a similar product in my mouth!Gemma_Smith wrote: »Hi there,
A while back I purchased a home tooth whitening pen (the 'Snow White by Cougar), it came with no instructions except a tiny insert on the box telling me to apply it on my teeth every so often for an hour. Since using it I have a permanent white bleached stripe across my top tip which is very visible and likely to be there for life.
Do I have any rights in a matter such as this? I now have to wear dark lipstick all of the time in order to cover it, it is very embarrassing. Any advise would be hugely appreciated.
Kind Regards,

It is utterly illegal to sell products that contain over 0.1% hydrogen peroxide for over the counter tooth whitening in the UK.
Products that contain under 0.1% hydrogen peroxide are utterly useless and will not white teeth at all. In other words you cannot buy anything in the UK or EU over the counter that will whiten teeth.
However many unscrupulous traders sell products contains hundreds of times this legal limit and mislabel the products . Trading standards have prosecuted many traders for doing this. You need to contact trading standards who can test the product and will prosecute if it contains an illegal amount of peroxide.
You have been lucky, people have had to have teeth removed and had permanent burns after buying similar from the Internet . Go to a dentist if you want whiter teeth.0 -
Upon researching this product further it appears to contain sodium perborate.http://www.bodylineplus.co.uk/teeth-whitening.html This is utterly illegal for two reasons
1 sodium perborate breaks down to form hydrogen peroxide
2 sodium perborate is a banned substance in the EU as it is deemed toxic to reproduction and foeto toxic (toxic to developing foetus).
This demonstrates the dangers of buying chemicals off the Internet and putting them inside your body. You have no guarantee they are safe even if you buy from groupon,Amazon, e bay etc.0 -

Seek advice from a no win no fee solicitor, if they say no you have no chance as they know their stuff far better than anyone on here.
That's a top tip.You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Do you buy the goods from them or are they just a third party who negotiates discounts for customers and the goods are still purchased from another company?
In the T&c's it says they aren't usually the seller, they are normally the third party.
Depends on the item, I bought something from them and they then passed on the details to the seller. They also sell stuff where your sent a code or voucher to redeem on a particular website.0 -

No win no fee lawyers chase cases they are certain they will win! Them saying no means nothing about the merits of a case!! And just because they know more than people on here doesn't mean they know anything substantial!0 -

I take it you've only just used the product? Therefore isn't it a bit of an assumption to assume any effect it has will be there for life?
I very much doubt that myself.0 -
I am curious how you managed to get it across your top lip0
