Luton Where to buy?

Hi,
I am posting this on behalf of a friend who is looking to buy something in Luton , she is after a 2bed home (flat / house) anything under 170k. she has a family with 1 kid so school needs to be in consideration. Why Luton ? because of close commute to London and budgetary issues. She wanted to move into MK but she can't afford there due to increasing demand and prices. Her budget is around 160-170k but needs to know nice spots if any in Luton ?
Thanks for the replies and help on this.

Not many good roads in Luton and they would be way out of price range. At £170K you're looking at 2 bed flats in reasonable area, but certainly not the best.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Thanks Lincroft can you recommend some reasonable areas then? are you local to the area? thanks0

I don't live in Luton, but have visited nearly every part of it although most of my knowledge is 10 years out of date, I'm pretty certain many areas haven't changed.
Areas to avoid - Hightown, Marsh Farm, Bury Park.
Most non council built 1960s onwards residential estates are OK, but not fantastic.
The problem is that £170K won't buy much in Luton these days or further up the road/railway line in Bedford. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

It's on a busy street full of non-descript commercial properties and has mainline railway at the rearIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
It's near schools and train station and OP says these are factors to consider?0

I would look into Bushmead or Stopsley as first choice areas. Wigmore / Bramingham / Barton Hills also nice.0

Christ, that looks awful - on every level!0
