I wasn't asked for ID last time I went but I had it with me after all I was handpicked for the scanner. This was Larne to Cairnryan after a good holiday.
I'm going September and will have my passport with me.

I'm going next week but as I'm driving I will have my photo driving license. Technically citizens of Ireland & Britain don't need to show/carry ID whilst travelling through all menbers of the common travel area. The land border between North & South Ireland makes it impossible to monitor. But reality says otherwise for airlines & ferries.

I was asked for ID arriving at Pembroke Dock a few years back from the Rosslare to Pembroke Dock route when we got stopped and taken to metal shed.

I'm often getting stopped anyway :o
