Ferry ID for NI

Dudes,
I'm taking the family to NI from the mainland on the ferry next week, and although the wife and I have photo ID, the two nippers don't. Will this be a problem? I assumed since it was still part of the UK it was a non-issue but a work colleague argues otherwise!

Never been asked for ID in ten years of going back and forth
If you are concerned at all, take the birth certificates for the littluns. I do this when flying with the grandchildren but once again never been asked0 -
Same here - Never been asked for ID going back and forth since the early 1990s.0

I was asked a month ago. The birth certificates sounds like a good idea just in case.. . .I did not speak out
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me..

Why would you be asked for ID when travelling to another part of the UK.
What next - something at Hadrian's Wall0 -

check the FAQ on the ferry company website.
e.g Stena say
British or Irish citizens travelling on our Irish Sea routes do not need a passport to travel to Britain or Ireland but are advised to take a form of identity. A driving licence, citizenship card or utility bill will usually suffice. A birth certificate will provide adequate proof of identity for your child to travel on our sailings.0 -
Currently here now on my 5th or 6th trip this year, never been asked for ID sailing Cairnryan > Larne in all the years I've been doing the trip.
Often get a rudimentary search of my car but they never ask for IDChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
Cheers everyone.
