hello

So there is this chargeback going on between nationwide and myself and the merchant. So during the investigation nationwide reimbursed me the funds which is nationwide money. However nationwide agrees with the merchant. So nationwide are going to take the money they gave me which was there's in the first place. What happens if I open a new bank account, put all the money from my nationwide account into my new account and then close my nationwide account. Can nationwide still take the money? Ps nationwide are going to take the money within 21 days so it gives me time to open a new account and close my current nationwide account. Please help.... Is this legit? Can nationwide take money from my New bank account which is Halifax or will I go to court? Anyone know? The merchant was a scam so I can't get my money back from them... Please help I STILL NEED ANSWERS DESPITE THE ANSWERS CURRENTLY PLEASE!!

You are going to end up being chased for that debt anyway.

They cannot take any money out of your accounts with other banks.

    But they can
    1. give you a marker on your credit file and/or CIFAS which could damage your credit worthiness for at least 6 years
    2. hand your case to a debt collection agency which can end in a CCJ, which will damage your credit worthiness even more

If you are unhappy with how they have handled your case so far, you should be raising a formal complaint.

    It depends.
  • It depends.

The merchant was a scam. Yes I was stupid cos channel 4 presented this guy who looks legit when he wasn't. Now I can't afford to pay nationwide back. Surely they can just give it to me as compensation for how long everything has taken. I am also in the process of complaining to the ombudsman

But none of it is Nationwide's fault, so why should they take the hit for you making a poor decision? They obviously aren't as convinced as you are that it was a scam as they've now sided with the merchant. You're on a loser if you try to avoid paying the debt, if you are convinced that the merchant was a scammer then you need to be the one taking it to court rather than being taken to court yourself and risking a CCJ and trashed credit record for 6 years.

Your grief should be with the merchant and CH 4, not with Nationwide. From the details you have (not) provided, it's hard to see why Nationwide should be paying you any compensation. Also, Nationwide clearly don't agree with your assessment of the merchant so you need to take a different approach to your complaint.

Which ombudsman are you taking your case to? You can only take the case to the FOS after you have formally complained to Nationwide, and have given Nationwide up to 8 weeks to respond to your complaint.

Depending on who the merchant is, you might be able to get help from the Consumer Ombudsman.

    Is this the company?

Have you tried re-appealing to Nationwide?

How much money did you lose?

If that is the company, you and the other people posting on there should exchange details and try and take the person/company to court collectively.
